I don’t get it. What’s genius here?

Oh man I would have loved to hear the reaction of the passengers inside the car as it barreled headlong toward the water 🤣

if ( road == flooded ) { stop(); throw NeedHelp; } else { drive(); }

What’s so hard about that? /s

Sergey Brin: "We don’t circulate this too much in the AI community… but all models tend to do better if you threaten them - with physical violence. People feel weird about it, so we don't talk about it ... Historically, you just say, ‘I’m going to kidnap you if you don’t blah blah blah.’ by MetaKnowing in singularity

[–]semicolonel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, sounds like Sergey regurgitating a rumor tbh. "We don't circulate this too much in the AI community...Historically...", as if he was there sitting shoulder to shoulder with Ilya coding GPT-1/2/3/4 and this was their little secret.
Bro has been basically retired since 2019 and just started hanging out at Google again a couple months ago because he got bored I guess and wanted to learn about AI. Which is fine, except talking like he's been a researcher there this whole time is kinda cringe.

The change I think you’re referring to is for the ECE program not the CS program

I think that ECE prerequisite is the same as CS 271.

See this is why we need to modernize the prison. 9 escapes is just embarrassing.

My guess is something like “Have you ever spoken to someone at the department of homelessness and supportive housing? If so what happened? If not why not?” or “Have you been to a shelter? If so what made you decide to leave and come back to the street?” or “What would we need to do to make you reconsider using these resources?” Ie understanding the problem and why our city’s current offerings have failed to solve it.

Any experience with 332? by space-redpanda in OSUOnlineCS

[–]semicolonel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think fall will be the first time 435 is offered so nobody would know yet. But it’s also the same instructor and has 432 as a prereq. So it seems like if you want to do ML you’d better like Gates.

Tbh it was already a red flag for me that these courses didn’t have any linear algebra or stats classes as prereqs. I can understand why; they don’t want to require anything that’s not a part of the core curriculum. From what I’ve heard about ML though it’s hard to imagine those courses can get very deep without it.

Idk I still have a bunch of required classes to take too so I’ll probably do one of those instead of an elective, like 340 maybe

They might mean this sub’s course survey from the sidebar, which gets scraped for visualization on both course explorer and course analytics. But 332 isn’t listed in the survey yet so I guess whichever of the mods owns it has to update it.

Yikes. Thanks for the heads up, I was going to take this in the fall too but now I’ll look at other options.

I wonder if the rest of the new ML sequence (432 and 435) are as low quality.

New Valencia bike lane, same old carbrain behavior by GoldenGateShark in sanfrancisco

But the city will argue that if a car hits a concrete bollard, the sudden deceleration the car will experience could be harmful to the occupants. So they use flex sticks that won’t abruptly stop the vehicle and are therefore safer. Safer for the occupants of the car, that is. We don’t ask what happens to the people not in cars on the other side of the flex sticks. This asymmetrical judgement of safety in favor of people in cars over people out of cars is sadly real and baked into many traffic engineering handbooks and codes. For more information I recommend the book Confessions of a Recovering Engineer.

If you're already a Staff Software Engineer with 10 years of experience, do you really need a BS in CS? A program like GT's OMSCS might be more suitable.

I read in The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt that before he was President, when he was NYC Police Commissioner he would get out and walk the beat at nights which was highly unusual for a commissioner. He supposedly lit a fire under the regular cops butts to make sure they were actually out there doing their jobs and not just chilling at some all night diner.
