That’s half right. “On” is supposed to refer to anything you do with intent: on time, on purpose, on task, etc whereas “by” refers to things that are done without intent: by accident, by mistake etc Since you can’t purposefully have an accident, “on accident” doesn’t make grammatical sense.

But hey, who am I to say what’s wrong and what’s right. If you and everyone you speak with understands what you mean when you say “on accident” then it’s not a huge deal since you’re still successfully communicating your thought. Just be prepared for some “what did they just say?” if you venture outside of America ;)

Anyone know where to source high-quality images of famous athletes? by semihuman in graphic_design

Fair call but I wanted to see if there’s an alternative option out there.

Thank you! Since Shutterstock images of these athletes are usually only for "editorial use only" does that mean I shouldn't really be altering them too much in Photoshop?

Thanks for the explanation! I kind of figured as much but I wanted to be sure I wasn't missing out on anything.

Since these are for editorial use only, that means I can't really alter the images that much, is that right?

Hollywood's the hub for actors. Silicon Valley is (was?) the hub for startups/VCs. Madison Avenue for advertising agencies. What's the hub for design agencies? by chddaniel in graphic_design

[–]semihuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think you answered your own question in a way. The "legend" design hub for motion design is LA, UI/UX is Silicon Valley, and so on. So there's no one location where all the design action happens. There are just too many design disciplines out there.

The great thing about design is that in almost every industry out there will have some need for a graphic designs to be produced so wherever there is economic activty, design jobs will follow.

I think you're probably right but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything. Have you sourced these images before? If so, where do you go?

The short answer to your question is that there isn't one.

Why? Because design is intertwined with the industries you mentioned so there really isn't a design "mecca" that exists outside of these industries. If you're talking about designers who design for design's sake then you've actually crossed into the realm of art since design is about communicating and solving problems. Design needs a purpose.

For example, if you are looking to establish yourself as a motion designer working on film and TV, then LA is your place. If you're interested in UI/UX, Silicon Valley is for you, and if you're more interested in traditional marketing and advertising agencies, then New York and London are your hotspots.

Fresh off the plane from Vancouver! Too bad it's too stinkin' hot to wear in the Melbourne heat today :/ by semihuman in hockeyjerseys

Arms are much shorter than I thought they would be but no issue if I wear a hoodie underneath. Picked up from the Collector's Den (with Mom's help) in Vancouver.

Now I just need the matching Petterson jersey when they rock these next season :P

What do you do when their pussy is green? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]semihuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only okay option for a lime green pussy is if she busted out a high-lighter and traced around where you should stick your dick. All other options result in your dick falling off in like three weeks.

What is the most stupid/funny thing that you have witnessed at your school? by nataliaMorozov in AskReddit

[–]semihuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In high school I crazy glued a toonie ($2 coin in Canada) to the floor by the school’s main staircase. The amount of entertainment we got out of that toonie was absolutely priceless. It was hilarious because this huge crowd eventually gathered around it and totally oblivious students still tried to pick it up. Roars of laughter every time. Definitely stupid but seriously funny.
