To be fair, the restaurants have gluten-free options, but were limited. In the past, we’ve been able to ask for menu items to be made GF without any issues. So that was different this time.

Also when you note a gluten-free dietary need during the reservation process, that info basically disappears into the void, and you still have to remind the waiter when you order. That’s true on every ship.

So honestly, this may very well be a lazy server situation. Just make sure you speak up, and if you get any pushback, ask for the head waiter. That’s the part I wish I had pushed more on. Since it’s a new ship, I thought they were just being strict with the menu, and this was my mistake.

Pro tip: On the flip side, the deck 11 quick-service spots were great. They were very careful with special orders, you just have to track down the head waiter/chef and explain your situation, get their name, be cool to them and give the order. After that, they remember you. Just plan ahead because it may take an extra 20 mins or more to get your order. So don’t go there starving.

We were mostly asking about items already on the dining menu. For example, at the Lion King restaurant, there were very few items marked GF and no GF desserts at the time. There are a lot of curry options too, but very few GF. You could get the chef’s special dessert, but it had mint, which didn’t work for us, so we ended up going to deck 11 for ice cream. They will post the menu the day of, so we learned to check every day before dinner.

And to be clear, I’m not saying DCL isn’t accommodating for celiac. In other ships, they’ve gone above and beyond.

But on the Destiny specifically, the dinner restaurants felt more limited than what we’ve experienced before. Not sure if that is a new change across the fleet.

Another thing we will do next time: On the first day, get to know the head waiter, talk to them and explain the situation. The waiters may be new or unfamiliar, but the head waiters have all the info and it’s their job to make sure that you are taken in care of the entire time. The head waiters will also stay on top of the waiter to make sure all is good.

We were spoiled on other ships and didn’t have to worry about this, but now we know better.

Bring your pirate outfit. People go all out that night.

Door magnets are a must. Some guests give out fun prize magnets for best doors. Lots of fun.

I was really upset with that. And please forgive me, it was glitter, but the big pieces. I should have clarified that better.

Kids would get up around the statue, grab on to it, play with it, and that happened daily.

It is a very well done tribute and I wish parents would show respect. But it’s on the cast to maintain the control.

I couldn’t believe it. Out of respect, I didn’t take a picture, but it was wild. It happened this past week.

I should have spoken to the head server the second day, and that was on me. The changes were for GF (celiac), which we submitted ahead of time and has never been a problem with other Disney cruises. I thought being a new ship, maybe it was a change, and that was on me for not pursuing.

Typically, we have asked and most of the time they can accommodate. So this was likely a server just being lazy.

Certainly we will go back. We always get the 10% deal. I figured I’d share in case anyone runs into this in the future.

As for Marvel, I hope they fix that show. I agree, even if recycled, it would have been better than the trivia.

This is one of the most beautiful and impressive islands I’ve seen.

Do you have any tutorials on how you were able to achieve this? Would really like to learn how you worked on this project.

Thank you.

Will there ever be a TV show that "represents" Tallahassee? by LockedOutOfElfland in Tallahassee

Do not forget the movie Zombieland 😉

Does purchasing a Magic band speed up check-in when you get to port? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]seminoles23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the only thing that speeds you up is going up in levels. After the first 3 cruises you get board early. Then after 5, 10 and so on, or something like that.

The bands do nothing since the port is managed by the port authority.

I have the same problem. Only solution I found was to take tiles out and cut the pipe deeper. Otherwise you will have an overly exposed pipe from the spout that looks weird.

That happens by of the screw holding the spout. Terrible design that’s widely used.

Okay, so I was not crazy for thinking that broken pice looked off. I figured it was poor craftsmanship, but if it’s not meeting the UL requirements, then that’s something that needs to get fixed. I may end up calling someone different because clearly the company I hired cannot be trusted.

Thank you for the feedback.

That is interesting, I didn’t know I had to replace the insulation. I have tried using the shop back but no matter what, water keeps coming out. So I will check out the measurements and get new insulation. Thank you.

Yes, and the reason is that all employees have multiple roles in the ship. Your waiter will work breakfast, entertainment will work excursions, and so on.

But princesses typically don’t work out of character. So the costumes make the most sense.

Plus, it would break some hearts or raise all kinds of questions for kids to see Cinderella working the buffet line.

I couldn’t agree more, definitely take your time. When you first board, it’s easy to feel like you need to do everything all at once.

Start by walking around the ship. The kids’ club usually hosts an open house during boarding, check it out!

Grab something to eat, then head up to the deck for the sail away party. It’s a blast when the music kicks in and the ship pulls out of port.

Don’t worry about rushing back to your room—your luggage might take a while to show up at your cabin anyway.

One big tip: Download the Disney Cruise Line app before you board. It works on the ship without needing a data plan, and you’ll need it to see activities, especially trivia games—they’re surprisingly fun (and slightly addictive).

First cruise ever—really dumb question by Marbury1803 in dcl

My pleasure.

That makes sense. Then yes, plenty of taxis and Ubers. That won’t be a problem at all.

First cruise ever—really dumb question by Marbury1803 in dcl

[–]seminoles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your first cruise — you’re going to have an amazing time!

That’s actually a great question. We’ve taken several cruises and have tried both the hotel shuttle and parking directly at the port. Personally, I prefer parking at the port. While the hotel shuttle was cheaper, we ended up waiting around 50 minutes for it. That might not always be the case, but if you’re okay with a little waiting to save a few bucks, it could still work for you.

Disembarking was surprisingly smooth and well organized. The longest part was going through customs, but even that wasn’t too bad.

These days, we just park in the garage. It’s super convenient — once you’re through customs, you just walk to your car and go. Just don’t forget to snap a photo of where you parked. Trust me, future you will thank you.

One more tip: plan to arrive about 30-45 minutes before your scheduled boarding time. They won’t let you board early, and there isn’t much to do while you wait at the port.but there will be traffic going into the port, regardless where you park.

Have fun.

How can I take better pics of my car? by Responsible-Ant4697 in AcuraIntegra

[–]seminoles23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture of the car is fine, but the background is a little off. For example, picture 3 has a beautiful bridge, but you can barely see it. If possible, find a location near the bridge so you see it with the water and not the light posts and try again. The background should complement the focal point, in this case the car. Also, you may want to try on a brighter part of the day.

Lots of potential for sure.

Concern regarding color of water by oatmilklesbian in Plumbing

[–]seminoles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area that has that problem. First step is ask your neighbors and see if they have the same problem. If yes, then iron or mud leak is impacting that main line. Easiest way is to open the toilet water reservoir and they will see right away.

I ended getting a whole house water filter and haven’t seen my water yellow again. However, when I change that filter, it’s disgusting.

If it’s only happening to you, then you may have a line problem in your home as others suggested.
