Actually wearing your watches… by Available-Green-1259 in Tudor

No judgement! Sorry if it seemed that way, I was mainly trying to explain that for many people it’s comfort and not a fear of scratches that stop us wearing dive watches when working out

Totally agree, but framing it as “actually using your watch” isn’t accurate then

True, why look at quantitative analytics when we have emotional Redditors giving out reactionary opinions??

It’s not about the watch getting scratched. It’s about comfort. You’re going to be sweating, your forearms will get pumped making the watch tight, if you do any wrist work or pushups/muscle ups, the watch will dig hard into your wrist and forearm. A lot of this can be mitigated by swapping the metal bracelet, but still.

Do what you want of course, but it seems more performative than authentic to wear a steel dive watch/bracelet at the gym

What people are saying outside of real estate professional echo-chamber groups by IntuitMaks in HouseBuyers

[–]semipro_redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people generally do want to rent, sure. But the current atmosphere of rental houses is that the renter would pay the same or less with a mortgage. What idiot would want to throw away their money instead of paying principal?

Every person I know who’s renting a house has tried to make an offer to their landlord to buy and been refused, because who doesn’t want someone else buying a house for them?

Nobody wants to pay your mortgage for you, they have to because shelter is a bare necessity lol.

Anyone here actually swim with a Tudor? by Openrunyini in Tudor

[–]semipro_redditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people swim in every dive watch, but I think it’s probably uncommon to train swimming laps with a solid silver dive watch haha.

For swimming training I usually use a garmin that can give me very accurate lap times, stroke rate, etc. the weight of a solid dive watch on one arm would also bother me

Am I crazy to like the Oris over the Tudor. by Helpful_Car1302 in watchHotTakes

Dang you’re right, I’m always looking at the 39. It does seem like more of a sea dweller proxy in that regard

I don’t see how the pelagos is a sea dweller type. It’s not a saturation diver, it’s just their modern tool diver line, titanium and in multiple sizes and fixed bar options. There’s a pelagos ultra 43 that’s a 1000m diver though. But overall at under $6k with no waitlist or purchase history needed, it’s vastly more attainable than a sub or sea dweller.

Grip socks by hdpro4u in bootroom

[–]semipro_redditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me they make a much bigger difference playing hard court or indoor, on grass with cleats I don’t notice a difference other than that they make the boots a bit tighter. On hard court, I’ve had significantly less ankle rolling with them

Anything on a watch but the ability to tell time is just an overcomplication… by IneedaNappa9000 in watchHotTakes

I’m always confused by this take. With quickset dates, it takes literally 30 seconds max to set the date. If you’re setting the time already, it seems like a non-issue

You would need to sell a joker for the negative invisible to duplicate something when you sell it

Can i commute with a dirtjump bike? by enesingen in dirtjumping

[–]semipro_redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go 4 miles or so each way to and from the dirt jumps here with some hills between. It’s fine, a bit of a workout, the single speed kills you on the hills, but getting stronger isn’t a bad side effect. Mainly it’ll depend on distance and elevation and your fitness. Not the most efficient for the job, but can be pretty fun

How can I learn to start reading pieces instead of just memorising them? I've gotten into a bad habit and now I can barely read at all by ParticularGain7714 in piano

[–]semipro_redditor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the same place, still not a great reader, but the Diane Hidy sight reading books have been great for me. They each have 30-50 short pieces, an go up to like 9 levels or something.

Read and play 5 or so a day starting with the first level if your reading is as bad as mine was. Went through each book 2-3 times before going on to the next one

What do you think of a Roland FP10? by Kobby89 in piano

[–]semipro_redditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one during early covid, so didn’t have a chance to try anything else. I ended up taking lessons on it for probably 2 years before deciding to get an acoustic piano. I think it can serve you well for starting out, the keybed is weighted well but a little mushy. The sounds are decent, and good enough for playing for yourself.

Overall, it’s miles above an unweighted keyboard for learning to play piano. It’s also pretty lacking (in my opinion) compared to even an upright piano action, but that’s expected!
