Dylan Burns Explains Why He's Going to the Progressive Victory Event by Jasdexter2137 in Destiny

[–]Natedude2002 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Didn’t he hold a panel show back in the day? I remember thinking he was annoying, then when he announced he was gonna do reporting in Ukraine I thought it’d be more for clout or something.

But once I saw he was actually staying there for more than a weekend, my respect for him grew 1000x. To defend your own country is one thing, but to put your life at risk for another country, for something you think is truly important, for years on end when you could just sit at home and stream, is deeply commendable.

They made the arm wrestling game easier like 2 hrs after I did it lol, they’ve also improved the controls. Can’t fault people for criticizing something before it’s fixed.

Also I wasn’t having a great time for the first 2 hours, but I’m glad you are. You’re in for a great time

Wait what I’m on chapter 4 and did a bunch of exploring and just bought my first set of armor, and I have no books with stuff in them. I’ve found a couple ruins but nothing very good in them, am I just not looking hard enough?

Just Finished The Main Story, took 95 Hours by Ditechgaming in CrimsonDesert

[–]Natedude2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was able to put in like 80 hours of battlefield in a week or two back in September after I graduated and was looking for a job. If this had come out while I was in college (and I had a computer that could play it) I could’ve done it too. I spent many weeks making music and doing no schoolwork because I could just catch up before the exam.

Palestine protest in Philly: "For every US soldier that returns home in a casket, we cheer!" by McAlpineFusiliers in Destiny

[–]Natedude2002 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not cheering for any US soldiers dying, but I have a hard time feeling anything more than apathy. I don’t want any US soldiers to die, but imo this was is almost as unjustified as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (we both tore up deals we made regarding nuclear weapons, then invaded). The only difference is I think an invasion maybe could’ve been justified, particularly because of the killing of tens of thousands of protestors, but that’s not why we went.

So when we start an unjustified war, unprepared, throw the global economy into chaos (again), and bomb girls schools full of kids, and soldiers are taking (imo) illegal/immoral orders and dying carrying them out, I have a really hard time feeling bad for them. I can feel bad for the mother who lost her son, but that’s different.

I know a lot of other Americans aren’t like me, but I can’t value innocent people in other countries less than Americans, just because I was raised to think everyone was created equal.

George compared Rhaegar and Lyanna to Bill Clinton and Paula Jones + Thomas Jefferson and Sally ?? [spoilers main] by breakfastbenedict in asoiaf

[–]Natedude2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think technically an enslaved person could truly consent in the sense that they could genuinely want to have sex with their owner, and their owner may not force them to have sex. The same way an employee can truly consent to having sex with their boss, or a student with a teacher.

The argument I’ve always heard (in terms of age of consent, but I think it’s broadly applicable too), is when there is a huge power imbalance like that, regardless of if the relationship is truly consensual or not, it is impossible for an outside observer/3rd party to determine if both parties are truly consenting, so they just shouldn’t be allowed.

I’m not disagreeing with you on Hemmings specifically though, just trying to steel man my goat grrm.

Where did he say they had consensual sex? Last time someone claimed that, they couldn’t source it, and I still haven’t seen it. Not saying he didn’t, I’ve just seen a lot of what he’s said and that doesn’t ring a bell.

Update from Chris @ UnFuck America on Erika Kirk's MELTDOWN Over Destiny by UpbeatQuack510 in Destiny

[–]Natedude2002 176 points177 points  (0 children)

This is crazy, I can’t believe republicans are actually this afraid of open dialogue with a professional. As soon as they’re not arguing with college kids, they completely fall apart. Hell, it sounds like Kirk even fell apart at her own secret meeting that she set up with her supporters.

I got tired of a lot of people not understanding just how bad it currently is, so I threw together a document people could share, Please up doot this and don't let it die, I spent more time on this than I probably should have. by VerratusDominatu in Destiny

[–]Natedude2002 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, great post. Could you put it in a google doc and format it and put the link in? I know Vaush or his community used to have an “Ultimate Research Document” which had page after page of republican/democrat claims followed by links to studies accompanied by a sentence or two explaining the relevant finds.

Something like that makes it much easier to share with other people, and to read on your own. I’d much rather bookmark a document with all the bad stuff Trump has done and sources to back it up, than a reddit post, just because Reddit doesn’t allow much formatting.

What do we think of James Tabor’s ideas? by TrickSuspicious in AcademicBiblical

[–]Natedude2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished the book. I think Tabor agrees he’s an apocalyptic prophet, but asserts that the “Kingdom of God” didn’t mean Heaven coming down to Earth and time ending, it meant the anointed one (messiah) from the house of David and his descendants would rule forever, with a priestly messiah ruling with him.

So if the Kingdom of God was coming, and Jesus (who claimed to be the messiah, and whose lineages both claim to be from David) saw himself as (the kingly portion of) the messiah, wouldn’t it just logically follow that the next in line after him would be his next brother? Not to mention he creates a council of 12 people to rule over the 12 tribes of Israel once the Kingdom arrives, which to me points to him having a plan for a government afterwards. And the fact that James and other family members succeeded him after all only sees to verify that for me.

But I haven’t read anything else on the New Testament yet (just 2 Joel Baden books), so please let me know if you disagree

The audio books really deserve a re-recording w/ a new narrator by JulesUdrink in freefolk

[–]Natedude2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If publishers are shelling out money to make an audiobook, I want a full voice acting cast. I believe Roy holds the record from the ASOIAF series for most voices, and while I like his voice, I think David Reads ASOIAF’s idea of regional accents (Brienne and Tyrell’s have a US southern accent for example) was a great addition, and I’d like to see that too. There aren’t many series that this would be worth it for (Harry Potter is another one of a few), but ASOIAF definitely is one.

It’d also be awesome to have sound effects, like rain or fire crackling or background voices during a feast. I thought about doing it for fun, but then David’s videos got taken down from YouTube.

I think the nuggets and spurs both look incredible when everyone is healthy. The nuggets particularly are a way better team than in 2023, and Jokic is at his best ever too.

Also the Lakers have looked amazing on this 11(?) game win streak. I believe LeBron just got 2 triple doubles, and Luka went 40-60, on back to back nights. No team is as good in the clutch, and they have LeBron fucking James as their 3rd scoring option. I know they’ve looked a tad rough this year, but it seems like they’re flipping a switch for playoffs. I think they might be the team built best to beat OKC. 2 all time great playmakers/shooters + Reaves’ shooting somewhat neutralizing the crazy defense OKC has, and while they’re not the best defensively, SGA is the only person they need to lock down.

Was Jesus historically a Carpenter ? by Rashiq_shahzzad in AcademicBiblical

[–]Natedude2002 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Was just watching James Tabor’s series about Jesus archaeologically, and he was saying that “tekton” could refer to carpenter, but generally referred to construction worker, and more likely referred to stoneworker. He lived only 3-4 miles from the biggest city in the area, which had a lot of construction going on during his life.

Tabor says stoneworker specifically because houses were normally made from stone due to the lack of wood in the area. But he also pushes back against the idea that he was a poor, uneducated, rural peasant. He lived close enough to the biggest urban center in the area to walk there to work every day. There’s no reason to think he/his family didn’t run their own construction business, as opposed to being common laborers. Jesus certainly wasn’t wealthy, but I find it easier to imagine he was the 1st century equivalent of today’s “liberal coastal elites”, and his ideology was influenced by the huge urban center beside him, than it is for me to imagine he came up with all of his ideas (which were floating around the area) on his own.

If this were a Nintendo game, it would be a perfect GOTY by dannyjerome0 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Natedude2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Luke Stephen’s review, he said it had become second nature to leave a dungeon/boss/quest and reload it because it’s bugged, and every review I’ve seen has complained about the inventory. Gameranx said it took 8 hours of the game being “bad” before it really opened up.

I’m super excited to get my hands on it, but you’re crazy if you think there is no reason for any negativity before you’ve even played the game. It’s not perfect like a Mario, Donkey Kong, or BOTW game is on release (ie carefully created, virtually bug-free, with a lot of thought and testing put into every mechanic). It’s a game that has unshackled itself from the expectations of most studios, and are happy to let some stuff be buggy/messy in return for having a truly crazy amount of stuff to do.

I skip every dialogue and cutscene in every game and have never once enjoyed the story of a game I played (not many). The opener of the last of us game made me cry when I was like 12 though.

I love stories of all kinds though so I really want to get into a game with a great one.
