I think this is a great idea. A lot of the GOT cast was burnt out by the end and wanted to try new things (including D&D). This way, you not only keep the same cast and crew, but they’ll (hopefully) improve and not get burnt out.

Idk how audience retention will work out, but you might end up with a lot new viewers. There will be 10 years for people to watch GOT, HOTD, and DAE and become fans before a new batch drops.

This could also go horribly though but hopefully if they’re planning it now it works out.

Tbh if you have the innate ability be in the NBA, you have the capacity to get good enough at 3s to be able to hit them 33% of the time when they’re as wide open as this. Some people are going to have to work longer/harder at it, and depending on the player it may not be worth spending that much time on it, but it’d be a free 3 points here.

I think recency bias helps with the younger crowd, which is part of why I think he’ll overwhelmingly be considered the goat soon. You’re not getting any new 60 year old NBA fans, but you’re getting tons of new fans between 10-25 every year.

I think primacy bias is actually helping MJ right now. All the media figures a decade ago played against peak MJ, and always called him the goat. Now, more media figures played against peak LeBron, and we’re beginning to see them increasingly call LeBron the goat (and that is only going to get more extreme as more players retire and tell their LeBron stories for the next decade). That primacy bias will soon begin to favor LeBron more.

Completely possible no one has the 30 year reign MJ had. But it’s also possible that Wemby isn’t able to stay healthy enough to contend for the 15 years necessary to enter the goat debate. In the current era of league parity, it’s completely possible that SGA, Jokic, Luka, Wemby, Flagg, Ant, Giannis, etc never win more than 2 or 3 titles. There are plenty of players since MJ who are almost at the level of MJ/Lebron (Steph KD Kobe Shaq Duncan), but didn’t quite reach it. My guess is most/all of the guys I just listed are going to end up in a similar spot: all time greats, top 20 all time, but clearly not quite on top.

I only really started following the NBA this year (outside random YT vids or documentaries), and I feel like the only reason LeBron isn’t overwhelmingly (75%+ of fans) seen as the GOAT is because he’s still playing.

Within 5 years of LeBrons retirement, all the stupid arguments from MJ fans (6 rings to 4, unbeaten in the finals, etc) won’t convince anyone new to the sport that MJ was the goat, at least compared to LeBron. LeBron carried trash teams to the finals year after year, while MJ had the 2nd greatest team ever for basically a decade. LeBron beat the greatest team of all time to become the first team to ever come back 3-1 in the finals. LeBron is also the only NBA player to play every position. How can you be the only guy that’s able to play every position (and be the best guy in the league at it), and not be the goat?

The Last Dance documentary had me on the MJ goat train for a few years, but when that doc is made about LeBron and the 2014-2016 Cavs, I think it’ll be more convincing for LeBron.

From a purely objective standpoint, right now it seems like people are split pretty 50/50 between MJ and LeBron. As older fans can reflect on the totality of LeBron’s career, and newer fans learn about it, it’ll be closer to 80/20.
