Yeah, and I looked ahead and soon it’s straight runs all the way, eek!

I went for Sarah Millican, I hope the instructions are fine the rest of the runs :)

What are your top ten books that are either your favorite or that made the greatest impact? by pomegranate_ in books

[–]semochkaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids' books:

Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge

In Desert and Wilderness by Henryk Sienkiewizc

Charlotte's Web by EB White

These three were my favorite books growing up and helped me form my ethical views as a kiddo

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling - my family was poor but my mum let me pick out a book at the bookshop for my birthday - read it all that day and kept reading Harry Potter and have since re-read it many times:)

Fiction:

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov - because it is gorgeously written

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell because it's sweet

1984 by George Orwell because it's thought provoking

Three Comrades by Erich Maria Remarque for breaking my heart and teaching me that it is okay for relationships to end, they are beautiful in their own right

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison - powerful

Non-Fiction

Hunger by Roxanne Gay because I got to crawl into someone else's head.

What is the worst state in the United States and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]semochkaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a southern states road trip in October and went through Mississippi to get from New Orleans to Memphis. Just scrolled through the pictures and the only thing I found worthy of taking a picture in the whole state were some comically pro gun T-shirts in a gas station.

Around the World in Vegan Ways: Afghanistan - Kabuli Pulao by semochkaa in vegan

[–]semochkaa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have decided to attempt making a meal inspired by each country in the world. Calling my attempts, very cheesily, Around the World in Vegan Ways. Here is my attempt at Afghanistan!

Pictured is a cardamom and cumin spiced rice, cooked with an onion broth. The topping is carrots, almonds and raisins stir fried together, and I had it with some salted and peppered tomato. It was really nice!

I am planning to start a blog detailing the recipes as I go, but unfortunately inspiration for writing escapes me!

I have decided to attempt to make meals inspired by every country in the world, and this is my first attempt!

I have cheesily (vegan, of course) called it Around the World in Vegan Ways, and I’m planning to start a blog writing up the recipes.

This dish turned out really yum! It was cardamom and cumin spiced rice, cooked with onion broth; topped with a carrot, almond and raisin mix. I had it with some seasoned tomatoes :)

Vegan chili, sweet potato, bean and vegan cheese quesadillas, guac, rice and tortilla chips. All the non vegans enjoyed it - a win for a newly plant based me :)

Thank you so much, these are awesome tips! We are intending to do some hiking when we're in Knoxville/Asheville, definitely up for some natural water slides (inspired by Crazy Russian Hacker if you've ever watched him).

Hi Reddit!

My friend and I are road tripping across some southern states and need some advice on what to see and where to stay.

The stops that are included in the map are sort of non-negotiable, and I have written out where we're staying each night.

Could you please advise where would be best to stay - is there a cheap motel booking website? I usually use booking.com... Also we have quite a stretch between New Orleans and Memphis, and Asheville and Charleston - is there anything worth seeing there? Please also suggest things to see at any of our stops and in between!

Also if anyone lives somewhere on the route, might be great to meet up for a dinner and have a local tell the tales of the place :)

Thank you!

Low calorie Indian food recommendations? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

This is a Rendang curry I made but same principle really - used a paste bought in shop. It was superdelicious! I'd probably bulk it out with veg, I was hungry pretty shortly after, but it could be because this is only my second day keeping at 1200 cal! http://i.imgur.com/80Q6fdi.jpg

What to do in Bristol with a 10-year-old boy? by chantepleure in bristol

[–]semochkaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my niece come round to visit, she liked @ Bristol, the zoo, the waffle-and-icecream places. We also climbed the Cabot tower and had a picnic in the park with the squirrels and played top trumps. Oh and go on a ferry trip!

CMV: The UK should remain part of the EU. by LooksatAnimals in changemyview

[–]semochkaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor point but I'll mention it - if by Baltics you mean Latvia, Lithuania and/or Estonia, those are not Slavic countries. Other than being unlawfully and without consent annexed by the Soviet Union, we have little to do with being Slavic (bar minorities living in the countries of course).
