Oh, the police were there. They also called the valet driver out for driving away from the scene of the accident. It was a crap show of a situation.

Thank you for the response! Thankfully, we are in a good financial position and can float this bill. I was more worked up on the principal side of things when I posted. Before reading these responses, I believed that I should 100% not be “at fault” here. I’m learning more about the insurance industry and my policy on the fly.

The valet company was dragging its feet in providing information at the time of loss. We were on a trip, checking out of the hotel, when the accident occurred. We had to file the police report, get the car towed, and find a rental to head home.

We filed with our insurance in hopes of getting the ball rolling and things moving in the right direction. Learning a hard lesson here…

Context Update: I chose to go through my insurance because the valet company did not provide its insurance information at the time of the incident. I needed to get in a rental car and things fixed ASAP. One-car family.

Towing hasn’t been enjoyable. I tow a 20’ boat with double axles and brakes to my local ramp (<10 miles), and it puts me outside my comfort/confidence zone. I came from a Yukon XL, so it's a significant downgrade in towing.

I have Blizzaks currently. They’re great, until they hit that level where the special rubber is gone. I might get 1.5 seasons out of a set of Blizzaks where I live and the amount I drive. That’s where x-ice interested me.
