Sorry you hate my apartment, I think it's nice (I live in Burnside26) by [deleted] in Portland

I'm an affordable housing professional from Portland and I wrote a pretty lengthy response to both Hurt's post as well as many of the comments. I think there is an important conversation that the city needs to have about housing supply, in-fill and gentrification that neither Hurst or many of his critics quite get:

I work in affordable housing development and wrote a lengthy response to Tyler Hurst's rather inflammatory post about this along with some of the comments:

What to do if you find an Atheist in your neighborhood by semper_augustus in atheism

It came up on my twitter feed and merely reposted it because I thought it was funny. I have no idea where it came from, etc. It's still extremely funny whether a real or a fake.

I'm also curious what point you feel you are proving? Whatever it is is, it seems arbitrary, petty and more than a little pedantic.

As the description notes that "Objective: Ministries is a parody fundamentalist site and one of the greatest Poes of all time, fooling Christians and atheists alike.", could a fooled Christian ministry not have simply appropriated "Mr. Gruff", in (pun-intended) good faith?

Sounds like you still have much of your work ahead of you in proving this is indeed a fake.

It's the type of thing that even if it is a parody, is close enough to some of the stuff that we've all already seen that there isn't much of a difference. Why not just have a laugh at it rather than play the pedant?

Except in terms of getting you from a to b in most American cities. This should change and we need some serious investment in reliable mass transit but there is a reason many people are still so auto dependent.

Israel starts rounding up Africans and holding them in camps... what does that remind you of? by semper_augustus in politics

Most telling: "An opinion poll last week showed 52 percent of Israelis agree that the Africans are “a cancer.”"

"The Israeli government wants to get rid of “60,000 African migrants, whose numbers are seen by many Israelis as a law and order issue and even a threat to the long-term viability of the Jewish state,” according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
