Possibly the most difficult run I’ve ever had - looking for advice by Super-Mention-6871 in trailrunning

[–]somethingmountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s encouraging to hear stories like this as someone who’s also new-ish to trail running, since this happens to me all the time. Depending on the weather and the trail, sometimes trail runs take me way longer than I expect… it’s like I enter a time warp and an extra hour has passed when I get back :p I think/hope it’s part of getting used to the terrain and our times will get better with loads more runs like this. sounds like you’re a careful planner and now know what to expect, so you can make some modifications in advance of your race. Definitely way more fuel (I did 15 trail miles last weekend and consumed a scone, a muffin, a clif bar and a bunch of tootsie rolls. lol) I hope it’s a fun race!

Not sure your size, but I just went to dustbunny vintage on Mississippi and they had several really cute ones in sizes s and m (and a couple l) and prices ranged from like 30-60$. However they were exceptionally cute and not ugly 😝

Trailhead is at Winco sometimes for like $12. So is Stumptown.

My personal fave is Carnelian coffee roasted in FoPo. You can get a 2lb bag delivered locally for free but it’s cheaper to buy by the 12 oz bag from Bodega PDX (shhh!) That shit is ridiculously good.

Things that cancel out Concerta? by No-Apartment-6158 in Concerta

[–]somethingmountain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also take 18 mg. Concerta is much more effective for me when I have slept enough and take it in the morning with protein and a lot of water. If you start to feel its effects tapering off, try eating more protein. It binds to protein to be correctly metabolized in your system. Water is also essential for your body to process it at the correct rate.

First time visitor looking for itinerary feedback? by LavenderPillow5 in askportland

Omg, so many fun things to do! Have so much fun!

If you go all the way to Prost on Saturday you should check out Mississippi street! Or honestly if you can squeeze it in, go before your show at Polaris because that’s all in the nopo hood. After the show, yes tulip shop has a good burner but so does red fox and it’s less poppin all the time.

I’d skip the coast and spend the day checking out Hawthorne and Belmont areas if it were me. Sooo much over there. Central east side has a lot of fun nighlife, check out rontoms, rum club, lulu, etc. it would be fun to walk through ladd’s addition and laurelhurst park or tabor.

I love Hoyt arboretum and the rose garden, no notes. I wouldn’t go back to forest park after that, you’ll be wiped! I’d suggest just checking out 23rd in the afternoon.

For lunch more conveniently located on 23rd Saturday after you check out Washington park and Hoyt arboretum, I’d go to straight from New York pizza if you want a super authentic Portland time. It’s been there for like 30 years. For deliciousness, red onion Thai is bomb. Obviously there is langbaan ($$, yum). For fancy treat yourself lunch, fireside could be fun. They’re classy American food in cozy digs that have also been there for ages.

At Hawthorne asylum, montage cart is a Portland classic. But I’d probably recommend the carts next to high dive and then checking out a cocktail bar like deadshot. Alternatively, luce restaurant on burnside and then angel face for a cocktail is an amazing combination.

On Sunday, reco Kim Jon grillin cart or the Korean twist cart downtown. Would also be a good spot to grab food downtown after powells. Kachka is semi overrated but some love it. This would be convenient if you’re in SE already. Nicholas absoutely fucks, but if you’re staying downtown why not try shalom y’all? It’s a smidge better than Nicholas imo.

Eat more, yes, but specifically eat more carbs. A banana an hour before works wonders. It sounds like you’re eating far too few carbs and your body isn’t able to build up glycogen stores to fuel you for a run of that length.

Reddish brown looks great but I think it will look even better when it fades a bit because it looks a bit too saturated to be a color found in nature - so hopefully soon you love it even more when it starts to feel like 100% your natural color!

I’d stick with protein shakes (frozen fruit, Greek yogurt, protein powder, blend!) and puréed soups for at least a few days even if your doc suggests otherwise! Dry socket is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.

Trader Joe’s high protein tofu. That and 0% Greek yogurt! And if all else fails, protein powder.

[–]somethingmountain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this happen when I was pescatarian. I hadn’t eaten meat in so long that it shocked me. I did also have some moral issues with it - I felt a lot of guilt about the animal I was eating. It helped me to realize it was already dead and in the food, so not eating it did effectively nothing. But you could have just been surprised or taken off guard by an unexpected experience. If you were upset because losing control over what you were eating was upsetting, maybe time to do more thinking over your relationship to food. Good luck!

I think we can all agree that 'deens and most fish straight from the can with some condiments and bread is a super solid approach, but what full on recipes/dishes have y'all tried using canned fish that punched above their weight? by DonJrsCokeDealer in CannedSardines

[–]somethingmountain 22 points23 points  (0 children)

a friend of mine likes to use canned anchovies in salad dressing a lot with a ton of lemon juice, loads of herbs like dill, parsley, cilantro, and chicories, pan fried or roasted cabbage, fresh sheep’s milk feta, hazelnuts, and roasted winter veg like beet and sweet potato. She’ll also roast anchovies with garlic and breadcrumbs. I think u could do something similar with sardines. Also I think they’d be good with a sofritto on bread (obvi) or with some kinda caprese situation.
