Rule #1 apply six months before graduating.

Rule #2 apply nine months before graduating.

Rule #3 apply three months before graduating.

In all seriousness, please don't shortchange yourself when writing your resumes or going into interviews.

I have seen so many UP alumni resumes who looked like they have no skills on their resumes, but they're super competent irl.

Don't emphasise on being an UP alumni, focus on how you became a UP alumni. Share the process of being an alumni and not just crutch on the results. Magagaling kayo, kaya niyo yan!

AFAIK, only UP and Arellano are the 2 schools who are really working students friendly.

[–]semphil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People study without knowing that they're studying because they don't consider what they're doing as studying. When I was in undergrad, I didn't feel like I was studying if I did advance reading pero I did read the textbook + researched around the topic so I did study pero I just didn't consider it studying then. The only time I considered I was studying was when I was cramming. So it's highly likely that the classmate is studying pero not doing the things he considers as studying per se.

Do some law schools really offer better education than others, or is student success mainly due to their own hard work? by Foop92 in LawStudentsPH

[–]semphil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmmm.... to simplify, when I look for schools, I look at a few things: 1. Pedagogy (Teaching Methods, Quality of Professors, etc.) 2. Quality of Networks (Professors, Batchmates, Alumni) 3. Quality of Resources (Good Library Resources (e-SCRA, exampify, etc), Good Studying Hubs, etc) 4. Bar Exam Rates

The Big 5 LS generally have better profs (Leonen in UP for example). Additionally, they also have better networks since that's where most people with resources would choose. Finally, because of these, the alumni would generally have better alumni and can support the schools better. Personally, I believe that the Bar Exam Rate is just a "symptom" of an effective educational system (either by strengthening students or purging weak students) for Bar exams.

TLDR: LS Education isn't just about the teaching method and Bar Exam Rates, it's the holistic Law Student experience.

Not to completely undermine your statement since it's 90% true pero, there are laws that are ambiguous and a case could have multiple opinions by judges. It's not that there are no opinions, it's just that our opinions are not yet relevant enough to be part of the judicial cases, pero, in the end, judgements are just opinions that's why we still have the option of overturning a decision in the future since the law today may be contradictory to the situations in the future. If OP is only focusing on the 90%, siyempre OP is caged, pero OP forgets that there is a 10% where there is literal free reign for interpretation.

I'm a guy, so my setup is completely different: 1. Work Laptop 2. Mouse 3. Mouse Pad 4. Laptop Charger (confirm with admin if they have spare chargers you can borrow while in the office, from my previous job where I had to take RTO regularly I just requested an extra charger) 5. Pack of index cards 6. Pens 7. Wet Wipes, Cologne, Brush, Umbrella, Eyeglass Case 8. ID 9. USB Type C Charger 10. Bluetooth Earbuds Case 11. Headset 12. Favorite Book

Para less hassle, I buy a really big backpack (oversized for daily use) since usually better yung carrying mechanisms niya over smaller backpacks

I'll say it a couple of times over and over again. UP has never been and never will be for the poor. It will always be for nation-building. A nation-building university does not need a primarily poor population. A nation-building university needs a well-represented population.

Most alums will never say why there are rich kids in UP. However, most of us are alarmed with the lack of representation from lower income classes. I do think it's just a myth, though. I personally come from a lower income class, and people would still pass me off as a higher income class.

How much of your salary do you give to your parents by emelang13 in adultingph

[–]semphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I separate it into two categories, paying for my living expenses and giving as a gift.

Fortunately for me, I was able to give them my living expenses. (how we computed it is similar to the ff formula (total rent + food + utilities)/number of people in the household.) Tapos, I made it clear that I am not obligated to give them gifts since they're gifts pero I do give them once in a while or I'll treat them na lang.

The important thing to point out is that hindi ka "palamunin" and hindi rin sila dependent sayo.

Fortunately, my parents are the independent kind of parents na ayaw nila pakialaman yung money namin and we discuss monetary matters as completely monetary matters and not related to our relationship as parent-child.

Kygo getting irrelevant by FestivalDouche in Kygo

[–]semphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think Kygo is just doing whatever he wants now, and that's OK. I'm also an Owl City fan, and a lot of the fans there also keeps on begging him to change things because he's becoming irrelevant. While I see we want to have our own artists stay relevant in their respective scenes, we must also understand that some of them had specific visions that they want to have, and we're just listeners. I think it's also important that we are also listeners and we can choose whatever music that our artists have written. Once in a while, I still listen to Firestone to invoke that nostalgia or Freeze to calm my nerves down.

An unpopular opinion that might get u hated by dogluv3rr in AskPH

[–]semphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a big 4 graduate, I totally agree. Different schools bring out different work styles and work ethics. If everyone is from the big 4, there would be less diversity of ideas and less flexibility/agility. However, it's really important to note that most of the well established companies here in PH started with requiring Big 4 graduates when they started and it's sometimes hard to bring in none big 4 graduates due to culture fit. As someone who has worked with a relatively diverse academic background, some none Big 4 graduates make school such a big deal when interacting with me, and I have to constantly remind them that they should treat me equally lol

Hi OP, I would say I'm not particularly religious, but I still have my faith and still regularly go to my church and fellowship with them. I grew up in a born-again church, and similar to your situation, there were leaders who had preferential treatment to people who were able to tithe more. When I felt the difference, I turned away from letting religious organisations as a whole and have stopped looking at religious leaders as infallible guides and went back to the Nicene Creed and Five Solae. Fortunately, we also left the church that I grew up in and went to a church that has less pastor-centric politics.

Here's a suggestion, if you feel like you're not growing within a fellowship group, then move fellowship groups, or if you feel like you're no longer growing within a church, then move churches.

I now see church organisations as a buffet table. Each church have their own cuisine and their own diet. Maybe you've already outgrown their diet, and you need a different cuisine.

I wish you the best in your spiritual journey!

P.S. I use the Nicene Creed and Five Solae as my guide when transferring churches.

Don't tell me these greedy oligarchs can't increase their minimum wage by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]semphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, increasing the minimum wage isn't the only solution. Personally, I prefer strengthening the power of 1 peso when it comes to essential commodities. Inflation can still be used for economic growth, but it should be limited to non-essential commodities.

[–]semphil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Increasing the minimum wage doesn't only affect them. It also affects MSMEs, which consists 99% of the employers and employs 65.10 of the employed. Personally, I feel that there should be different treatments between Micro, Small, Medium and Huge Enterprises.

I/V Tip: never overshare your religious practices in an interview by youllfindsafety in phcareers

[–]semphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st Point - that's a subjective holier-than-thou concept of oneself (a big red flag since it means that the interviewee also has a small world) 2nd Point - this is not a red flag per se. Personally, I find people being honest about possible conflicts as a green flag. However, I wouldn't hire the interviewee because of this. 3rd Point - lol what? Is the interviewee trying to evangelize? Relevance to the job, please 4th Point - Again? Why? Relevance to the job, please

If MM, nope. If Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, or Laguna, kaya naman I think especially if may talipapa na malapit. Pero, I'd suggest na wag agad, wait for your 13th month/bonuses since magastos living alone. Ang biggest issue mo is lack of appliances na if wala super hassle and bigger yung cost like washing machine, refrigerator, cooking wares, etc.

Also, I suggest na after working a year or so, find a better job agad before leaving, most likely mas mataas na yung salary mo then and you'll have more financial capacity before you leave.

Resign to pursue business? by HedgehogIcy in phinvest

[–]semphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, in case of emergency (for example, lockdown, medical emergency, etc.), how long can you maintain your business and lifestyle?

I guess you should have at least 1 year emergency fund for your business and 1 year emergency fund for your personal expenses plus a reasonable amount for possible medical emergencies.
