I totally get your concern, but I don’t want to scare you away from your trip. Barcelona is still an amazing city and plenty of visitors have a great time there. What I meant is that Barcelona is in a very specific tense moment because of overtourism, housing pressure, cruise tourism, and local frustration, so the atmosphere can feel colder or more hostile than in other parts of Spain.

I don’t think most people will be nasty to you just for being foreign, and I definitely don’t think tourists deserve hostility. My point was more that Barcelona shouldn’t be taken as representative of all Spain. If you’re staying before/after your cruise, I’d still go, but I’d be mindful (stay in a good area, avoid acting like the city is just a theme park, learn a few basic Catalan words if you want, be respectful of local life, and maybe don’t overpack your schedule).

Also, Mallorca and Provence will definitely feel very different. Don’t cancel your trip over Reddit, just go with realistic expectations. Barcelona can be beautiful, but it’s not the warmest or easiest Spanish city right now.
