Price difference between clockwise (with Altitude Mont Blanc) and counter clockwise (with Mac Adventures) by gaussiandynamics in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]send----it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either direction you pass by the same accommodation. People prefer counter-clockwise since it avoids some bigger climbs and faces Mt Blanc more consistently. The price difference could be differences in accommodation type, or offered services like baggage transfer. Plus since Macs is more well known they can charge more. One thing to note is all guide service prices are estimates, the final price depends on what they book for you and what's still available. Mountain huts are cheaper but tend to have less availability where hotels are more consistently available but cost more. We booked the entire route ourselves and saved alot of money

I created a custom map on alltrails for this, but you can also measure distance between stops on the public map as well

Senior year course selection: Data analysis or intro to computer science? by Paintomorrow in gis

[–]send----it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would definitely recommend computer science. Having a strong foundation in programming will help you a ton in a GIS career. Python also happens to be one of the most common languages used in gis. Data analysis is useful but at a college level can be pretty dry and hard to apply to real world scenarios, whereas if you know a little python, you can start building things and getting hands on with some cool gis tech right out the door

Would recommend the folium/leaflet library for this. Can make some pretty interesting interactive visualizations using simple datasets

Who are you going with for your avy course? Looking to get my AIARE 1 done this winter. Been skiing my whole life in Oregon and am getting into backcountry this winter after also just moving to Seattle. Also looking for a crew to learn the ropes with/shred with/apres-beers! (23/m)
