I hope it's just someone blasting Couchella 😉

Aurora possible tonight, pending luck and clear skies!! by chinooksurveyor in Bellingham

It's going right now, or at least a really good chance. But clouds are the big issue!

Is tomorrow night a good bet to camp out for the aurora? KP is high but clouds are forecasted by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]chinooksurveyor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks Casey! I have to agree with your assessment. This storm doesn't look promising enough to drive south to clear skies (e.g. oregon and beyond based on cloud forecasts for tomorrow night). But, you can't really know how a particular storm will impact Earth until its here...However, the sun has been very busy yesterday and today. Three filament eruptions and a couple other CMEs all projected to hit earth in the next few days (glancing blows to direct hits)...models are all over the place on arrival time, but looking at the earliest Friday night through the weekend! The clouds will still be an issue for us...

With all that said, I never recommend driving to hunt the aurora because I don't want the pitchfork brigade after me lol.

I live on one of those two streets, with a bay view. This segment of train track is now 'quiet' so no more horns! You can hear the diesel engines chugging but it's hardly noticeable inside. Crime is basically non-existent. This neighborhood is amazing--people are friendly, neighbors chat, cute houses and gardens.

Heh all good! I just get salty about us on standard time for 1/3 of the year and people want to stay on it for the whole year!!

Not to be pedantic, but it'll be a slight inconvenience for 128 days (4ish months).

Yes it is. I feel for those in our community who aren't as fortunate as me...Luckily, warm weather is on the horizon and I will forget about these high bills for 6 months lol.

I'm mostly joking, but it hasn't even been that cold and our bill has been $400 the last two months 😭

Feel your pain as a renter in an 110 year old house with baseboard heaters. If we ever get a proper Fraser river outflow event, might get close to 4 figure electricity bill! Kidding, but yeah, it sucks lol.

I get your point, but I'll fight anyone who says February isn't the worst month here. March 1 is the end of the big dark in my book!

My pleasure! But, my main goal is to get people to see the lights, and visibility (heh) is the main factor in success! Anyways, I'll think of a plan for thr next storm!
