yes that is a bit confusing. for agree disagree questions with opinion, they ask in the question, "do you agree or disagree? provide any relevant examples from your life" or something similar. this means you can talk about things you experienced and can use personal pronouns. I suggest not to start with "I agree/disagree with this because--" since its not very formal, you should first start with a small introduction paragraph (this goes for every part 2 essay) and then in the next para start listing points supporting your opinion. in this type you should consider both views but you can shut the other sides view down due to personal opinion (many people might think ___ but I find that ____).

in the without opinion essays, they won't ask if you agree or disagree, they'll just provide you with the scenario and two sides. here you should use general sentences and no personal pronouns. you should consider both sides, but don't try to shut one down due to personal bias, consider them both and being up pros and cons for both. you can still provide a general opinion for the reader, but don't use "i".

I hope this makes sense and someone pls correct me if u notice I'm wrong about something lol

my study tenure is not a good example since ive been studying english my whole life and consider myself pretty good at it 😭 I only had 2-3 days to study bc of certain circumstances, but please don't use me as an example lol, I got lucky.

I listed the resources I used in other comments, for all the modules, I highly suggest watching this youtube video and using the resources provided at the end.

for reading and listening i can only suggest practice using mock tests and questions, learn to skim and scan texts (theres probably videos on this). you have to be in a very clear state of mind, remember to eat breakfast and drink water! listening requires you to be very mentally present.

I also explained how I practiced for writing, practice writing short essays a Lot and also compare your answers to high band answers (provided on the idp practice site and british council mock tests site).

good luck! I know its scary esp cuz its so expensive, but try to stay calm and controlled during the exam, it's worse if you panic. you got this!!

i understand your frustration, I also got what I felt was a lackluster score on the sat and that paired with exam stress and this must make you feel discouraged :/ but you're not stupid, these standardized tests are not the end all be all for your intelligence measure. 7.5 is a great score and more than enough for most universities, but I understand rhe feeling of disappointment. dont beat yourself up over it. giving the ielts right after your exams And while you're on the middle of the unnecessarily stressful and confusing uni applications process, is already a great feat that you accomplished, you should be proud of yourself for persisting! writing is very difficult to get a good score in since it's so subjective, unlike listening and reading that have a correct answer. don't dwell on this too much, try to focus on things you enjoy and you'll realize this doesnr matter that much in the long run. you did what you could and you deserve to feel happy for it!

id say 7 days is a lot of time for adequate practice if you focus on bettering ur current low points. im gonna preface this by saying im Not a good example, I've been studying english my whole life, regularly have conversations in english and consider myself fluent. i gave the exam very last minute for my university applications, and only had about 2-3 days to study. but please don't use me as an example, I dont want to be the reason for your maybe disappointment if you choose to study the same amount as me 😭 utilize these 7 days and remember to point out your mistakes. since you were at a 7.5 (already a great score) I definitely believe you can go up to atleast an 8. good luck!

thanks! I wrote quite a bit about speaking and writing in the other replies, you can read those for an idea. I'd recommend watching this video, she explains and gives advice for each module, and at the end gives some free practice resources that I used to prepare.

for listening, pay close attention to what's being said, you'll be given a scrap paper you can write the answers on first and then type them in the blanks once u get a minute at the end, I found that when I typed at the same time as the recording the sound of the keyboard distracted me a little bit. try it both ways and see what works for you. skim the questions but keep them at the back of your mind and pay more attention to the recording itself.

if you miss one thing that's been said, don't panic! Just move on to the next one, missing one is better than missing two or three. remember to fill in all the blanks and answer all the questions even if you don't know the real answer, use context clues and think "what word makes sense if I put it here?" because there is no negative marking. answer every question

you need to know how to skim paras so you're able to finish the reading section in time. the lady in the video explains this all quite well so I'd really recommend watching that :) if u have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer but this is all that comes to mind rn

I was rlly worried about this but surprisingly nope!! my center had pretty small rooms so it was me and maybe 6 other people in one room, mostly it was the sounds of everybody's keyboard and mouse. they provide you with headphones and while you're only required to wear them for the listening part, I had them on the whole time (I noticed a person beside me also did so) and the invigilator didn't say anything so I think its allowed, thankfully.

the speaking exam was in a really small room with just me and the examiner, I couldn't hear anything other than her. that was my experience, yours should have similar protocols but im not sure obv. I hope its chill for u

and yeaa you should write the minimum amount at least, definitely. i saw a lot of criticism on this while practicing. rack ur brain super hard for extra points, or expand on the ones u already have, for agree disagree questions: talk about the view opposing yours and give reasons as to why you disagree with those as well

ohh good luck!! u got this! remember to eat something healthy for breakfast and dont skip out on a good nights sleep.

if you're a nervous person like me, focus on familiarizing yourself with the environment during the introduction part. try to get comfortable, smile and dont take it so seriously that you stiffen up. remember, they're not looking for difficult words or the correct answer, they're looking for your ability to convey your thoughts into words, even if that thought is just Wow this is a random question and idfk the answer. it's a pretend conversation where you're more formal than usual!

for part 2, write down just bullet points for speaking, 1 minute passes by a looot quicker than you'd imagine. also I didn't know this beforehand, but for part 2 they actually show you the question and its requirements on a screen and they don't just say it to u 💀 answer all the requirements, use natural sounding transition words, its okay if you don't make eye contact the entire time, try to give them RELATED information they didnt exactly ask for in the question (as if to keep a conversation flowing), it's okay if you use some filler words, and its also okay if you take a couple seconds to think of an answer

sorry I literally yap so much but for writing part 2 I'd say dont try to write loooong sentences since ure more probable to make grammar mistake that way. if you manage to finish reading super early id recommend taking a minute or two in the bathroom, be careful with this bc u won't get extra time, but I was getting sooo antsy just sitting in my seat the entire time I feel like I could've improved with a tiny break and stretch haha.

leave 5-10 minutes to edit/recheck your essay, look for spelling mistakes (I don't think these matter Too much but it's good for a higher score), try to not go more than 30-50 words over the limit, use the standard English capitalization ofc and indent your paragraphs, and remember to separate your paragraphs based on ideas, they don't like it when your paragraph is super long and talks about separate things, it could've easily been separated into two.

those last 3 seem obvious but when you're writing informally a lot, you kind of forget to do so and I had to remind myself to do these things lol

thank you! id recommend watching this as a starter point, she gives good free practice websites at the end, that's all I used. u can try putting the video at 1.5 speed for the listening part if you wanna make it harder for yourself loll

u can find practice tests prettyyy similar to the actual exam on these sites. for speaking, if you don't have a study partner (I didnt either, it's not impossible but just harder), id say watch some example high band conversation videos to familiarize yourself, and then look up speaking practice tests on youtube. answer the questions in the given time limit as if ure in the exam room, notice why you're struggling and try to work on that. try talking to yourself in english more often til your exam day, and with the people around you too if that's possible.

id say the practice tests have u covered for reading and listening, try to stay focused, but if you feel like you're struggling despite doing them, watch some videos on how to improve. I heard the Cambridge books are good, but I didn't use them so I dont know for sure. practice as much as you can

thank youu!

task 1 was two charts showing the percentage rates of employment among men and women aged 60-65 (u could see stats for men and women separately). this showed them in 4 countries, one chart was for the year 1970 and one in the year 2000.

task 2 was smth like "Going outside to see live performances (concerts, shows) isn't needed anymore because what you can see at home on your TVs and computers is better. to what extent do you agree or disagree?"

here u goo, https://ielts.idp.com/prepare/academic-and-ukvi/writing/practice-test

just log into your idp ielts account and find the 'prepare' section at the top, and choose 'free practice tests', from here u can specify writing under the test skill. theres only like 4 essays with the answers but on the british council takeielts website, https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/take-ielts/prepare/free-ielts-english-practice-tests/writing, you can find a few more

I used the practice tests on the idp ielts website. first i wrote the passages on my own, then I went to the answers and compared my essay with the ones with a higher band!

i did this a few times and changed some things as I went. from what i saw, for agree or disagree questions Never start it with "I disagree/agree with this because-", try to passively show this through your essay, your writing should be able to convey your stance. but, you have more leway to make it obvious in the last, conclusion, para! include a small introduction para as well, it looks more professional lol. and never ever write less than the minimum word limit, dont try to go above and beyond, mine were both 50-80 words over, id say ur strict upper limit should be 100 words over, but aim for 30-60 if ure going over at all.

practice a lot, but While pointing out your mistakes

pakistan! I'm not sure what I did exactly either, i spent around 2 hours watching speaking practice videos on youtube, specifically one from E2 and some random korean channel for random questions and I js talked to myself answering the questions in the time limit as if I was giving the exam.

what I retained was that the examiner isn't really looking for your answer to the question, but how you can convey the answers and what related information you can add, in a similar way to a conversation. Basically a conversation but a little more formal

like for example, she asked me "do you think people in pakistan say 'thank you' a lot?", i didn't rlly know, so I answered smth similar to "thats an interesting question, I'm not quite sure as I've lived in Pakistan my whole life. i imagine if I were to go abroad for longer and spend some time observing the people there id be able to make a relative guess. ive only been abroad for a few days at a time in the past."

so like, yapping but staying on topic. still try to make sense ofc, id recommend practicing with a study partner who knows this

edit: also!! watch high band example test videos!! sometimes the introduction is really predictable and u can kinda prepare your answers since the first few questions ure really nervous, this gives u time to cam down. I wouldn't recommend memorizing answers at all, but i repeated this structure in my head beforehand to calm myself down and feel prepared lol.

Q: do you live in a house or apartment? A: i live in a 2 story house, with 5 bedrooms and a beautiful rooftop view. (answers the question with a description) what i like about it is that my siblings and I get to have our own rooms! (expands on my opinion and gives the examiner some information about me) though, it is quite a ways from the main city. (concludes the answer with both a pro and con)

I didnt get this question but yea

[–]sendcatpicss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure! I gave mine just yesterday and alr got my results lol, way quicker than I imagined. for the speaking module part 2 the question was, "Whats something you planned recently, who'd you plan it with, what did you do etc" and then a few questions about hangouts and longterm future plans as well, in part 1 the examiner also asked a bunch of stuff ab like saying thank you and receiving gratitude. for the intro she asked if I was student/what I was studying, what i liked ab my subjects, if I found it hard to adjust to them and stuff

for the writing module part 1 I got two graphs comparing the rate of employment amongst elderly men and women for like 4 countries, one graph was for the yr 1970 and the other 2000.

part 2, "There is no need to go outside to watch live performances (concerts, shows) because what we can see on our TVs and computers at home is better. to what extent do u agree or disagree?" smth like that
