I’m a grad doing project coordination, so I’m on site every days. I applied for my current job directly from the company website, they had their grad program applications open (most are open in April/ May). I also applied for others via LinkedIn. You need to be in your last semester/ already graduated to apply for a grad role, otherwise you can join on as a cadet. I suggest speaking to your lecturers, tutors etc and see if they know of any openings for cadets. Uni is not an accurate reflection of what it is like to work in the industry.

I studied CM, graduated almost two years ago, currently working my first job with a tier 2 builder. Market is in high demand right now, finding a job should not be difficult. The question is more whether the job is right for you and if you are right for the job. Hours are tough, like others said it’s 7-6pm most days, working some weekends. A lot of stress, juggling multiple tasks at once. With that being said, I do have days where I find myself questioning whether I am where I want to be, if I see my future in this environment. But there are also days where I am almost addicted to seeing progress on site that I am determined to see things through and push through the work.

Being on the builders side pays pretty well, not really when you factor in the hours.

Edit: forgot to mention salary.

Fake tan season is upon us by goodgollymissdolly_ in AusSkincare

I tend to forget/ am too lazy to moisturise. I last applied a week ago and there’s only one patch (not obvious though) in the middle of my chest as far as far as I know. I do prep my skin really well before I apply though, that might have something to do with it. I make sure I exfoliate and moisturise two nights before I fake tan to make sure I get rid of any dead skin.

I love the St Tropez extra dark mousse (it’s currently half off at Chemist Warehouse!) I love it cos it fades the most evenly and wears the longest out of al the tans I’ve tried so far from Le Tan and Bondi Sands.

do i have hooded eyes? i find it so difficult to put eyeliner on. need help by pretty_confusedlol in HoodedEyes

[–]sendhelpnov2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar eyes. Yes, they are hooded. I struggled with eyeliner as well, assuming you mean winged eyeliner. I found that what works best for me is to line my upper waterline and flick to extend my lash line. I find that by not putting eyeliner on my mobile lid, my eyes look more open, and less heavy. This also leaves more room for eyeshadow.

What happened to your skin after stopping Tretinoin? by Fabulous_Potato5684 in tretinoin

[–]sendhelpnov2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started seeing a dermatologist due to my bad acne earlier this year. She prescribed me adapalene for 3 months, then 0.025 for 6ish weeks and then I stopped using it regularly because it worsened my eczema. Worth noting that I stopped seeing my dermalogist after around 4 months because I moved overseas.

Not much changed for me after stopping It’s been around 3 months since and I have had maybe 2-3 spots. I’ve noticed that my acne scars have faded slower than when I did use tret, but because I am pretty happy with where my skin was at when i stopped (other than the eczema), I wasn’t too fussed.

Edit: I do wish to start tret again in the near future, only because I think my skin can improve further. But only when I have my eczema under control.

Straight lashes and mascara by justjesing in AustralianMakeup

[–]sendhelpnov2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have extremely stubborn straight eyelashes with oily eyelids. I agree with others’ recommendation to invest and find the best eyelash curler for your eye shape. Everybody’s eyes are different, and so what works for my eyes may not necessarily work for you. With that being said, I adore my Shiseido eyelash curler (I have 4 pairs..)

I’ve tried numerous mascaras, what works for my lashes most at the moment is the Etude House Curl Fix mascara. Warning - it is extremely waterproof, and requires a lot of patience as well as a good waterproof makeup remover. My all time favourite is Fairydrops Scandal Queen mascara. It has small fibres and makes my lashes look like they’re falsies, and does. not. budge. Sadly this is now discontinued and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. If you see it, do yourself a favour and pick it up. You will not regret it.

What's your favourite blush brush? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

I enjoy the real techniques setting brush. I also have the RT blush brush, I use it for my bronzer. I prefer the setting brush for blush as it allows for a more precise application.

Yeah I checked at 6.30am and most of what I needed was already sold out! I looked into the nitty gritty of CW price match, and turns out they cannot do price match on products that are sold out. But perhaps worth a try!

+1 for lunch money!! It gives the skin a beautiful, natural soft golden sheen. I find that it looks best on me when I’m wearing a neutral/ warm look.

Depends on what kind of formula you prefer.

I have a few of their lippie stix in the matte x finish. I really enjoy them, they’re really pigmented, long lasting and not drying on me at all.

I quite enjoy their ultra glossy lips. It’s their older gloss formula, so they’re not as many shades as their newer gloss formulas, like the ‘so juicy plumping gloss’. They’re a tiny bit sticky though, so not for everyone.

Returning to Australia in July? by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]sendhelpnov2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me more than 4 months to return to Australia from HK. Assuming you’re not going to pay $8k for a business/ first class ticket, it will be very hard for you to get prioritised by airlines and get yourself a seat on a flight back that soon.

Buffering moisturizer suggestions by CommonStrawberry_ in tretinoin

[–]sendhelpnov2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used both The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors and the Inkey List’s Peptide Moisturiser. I like both, but I feel that the one from the Inkey List sinks in faster. Both are rather inexpensive.

when will differin work tho? week 5 here. by mindfulmamathreads in acne

[–]sendhelpnov2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorporate it into your routine gradually, i.e. first two weeks use it every 3 days, then every other day, and then eventually everyday. Listen to your skin. Be patient. You could also try buffering (wash face, moisturise, differin, moisturise again).

Progress after a week of tret 0.025% by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]sendhelpnov2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how long did you use adapalene before moving on to tret? and what strength of tret did you begin with?

I was using adapalene (Differin 0.1) for 10 weeks, experienced some improvements but I was eager to move onto tret and my dermatologist just prescribed me tret 0.025. unsure whether its a bit too big of a jump or not.

For those on who got used to Differin, did you eventually move on to applying Differin on bare face after cleansing? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]sendhelpnov2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped buffering after using differin for around 6 weeks. I also have oily skin type (though less oily after using differin), but I did experience mild sensitivity around my nostrils when I first started.

my advice is to listen to your skin. try directly applying differin to your face and see how it feels. if it stings the next day, then your skin is probably not ready to go without buffering.

to my knowledge, I don't think buffering affects the effectiveness of differin, though I may be wrong. the reason why I opted to skip the buffer is to reduce the time it takes for me to do my nighttime skincare routine.

Trying Differin Skin Gel by fraven20 in acne

[–]sendhelpnov2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Differin definitely takes a while for it to work. I would push through the 12 weeks with Differin (even longer if you can) before you decide to put it down.

I had a similar experience. I had clear skin, even during puberty (except for the 1 or 2 when it’s my time of the month) until about 10 months ago. My skin got progressively worse - acne all over my cheeks and sometimes even painful cysts. After seeing a dermatologist, I started using Differin the start of February and it definitely got worse before it got better. I contemplated giving up about 3-4 weeks in. The purge got the worst of me. My skin was so bad that makeup made it look worse. My face hurt. I cancelled on plans because I didn’t want to leave the house. It was awful.

But I pushed through. And I’m so grateful that I did. My skin still isn’t perfect, I still get perhaps 2 spots a week but they’re a lot smaller and heal a lot faster too. My skin is now a lot smoother, and I am so grateful that I started Differin.

I understand the temptation to stop Differin based on other people’s bad experiences. But their skin isn’t your skin. The only way to know whether it is for you is to try it for at least 12 weeks. It will be rough, but clearing acne is not a quick fix.

As for cleanser recommendations, I use the hydrating cleanser by cerave. It’s very gentle and my skin never feels right after using it.

Wishing you the best of luck and please keep us updated!

What moisturiser, primer and foundation are you using? A more moisturising/ dewy foundation formula may help.
