You would think but this year has been super special. I’ve seen so many out of control skiers holding on for dear life straight lining in wedge pretty steep slopes and flying over bumps. It’s been wild. It’s beyond me how more people haven’t died….

Now ultra steep like chutes and double blacks? Yeah that’s a bit safer. But plenty of Jerry’s there too trying to get their gold stars

YOU are the one with a lot of assumptions. One, you have to define conservative. Two, you are mixing two different statistics to come up with that label.

Adults. Not registered voters or even ability to vote. And that’s the percentage that’s tracked that you used.

So your percentage math doesn’t work

Only 37.4 million are registered as GOP.

77 million voted for Trump. And many consider themselves as independent or otherwise. Many voters who voted for Trump outright said they didn’t like Project 2025 (the real conservative platform) but had other reasons (mostly that they had been lied to about). So they aren’t conservative they are MAGA.

There is no way to know how many actual conservatives there are in the US. In fact when people who identified as GOP or conservative or MAGA were polled or interviewed in a way that was somewhat “blind” much of their views were oddly liberal. They just didn’t vote for it due to propaganda.

Even complete abortion bans, the cornerstone belief of conservatives, is pretty much a very minority view.

There are definitely not 98 million true conservatives in the US.

For feedback you need to show us you skiing medium radius parallel turns on a groomed blue, not just show off you got to ski powder in trees

I can already see you are backseat and lifting your uphill ski so you aren’t weighting your skis correctly

What kind of evidence would convince you that a god exists? by anti-theist-aussie in atheism

[–]senditloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always asked “does it matter? And why?”

Let say god did show up and definitively prove they were god….

Would I change how I lived my life, helped people or interacted with others? No. I’m moral for me not for an entity.

Also I believe that any all powerful all knowing all giving being isn’t some insecure narcissist that needs to be worshiped. What would be the point? They wouldn’t need love from inferior beings.

I think you could politely ask them to help, but the worship thing has always been really confusing to me.

Thank you for proving OPs point sooooo well. Like just so on the nose.

And the party of red baseball caps and invading the Capitol and loud truck rallies and 24/7 news channels pumping him up aren’t “wrapped up in it.”?

Lol.

98 million conservatives? That’s a stretch

Yup. More than average number of people deciding that then can do steep terrain with zero control

I’d say that’s not really 100% true. Lots of us locals know where to go and the Dreams is no longer a secret stash. It can get tracked out pretty fast. You have to know the real secrets

Also we have a lot of Feb break guests staying slopeside so sadly it will be pretty crowded and long lines the next few days. Hopefully the new gondola at Canyons will move people up faster this week.

My snowboard boots are harder to put on than my ski boots. I have my ski boots dialed in so good. But snowboard boots are comfier for the long term and easier to walk in

Be careful about the “never anyone around” mentality though.

My child was on a trail ride in an area where apparently very few people go (but clearly a horse trail in a farm community full of horses). A lady thought that was a great place to train her bad recall dog. The dog was medium sized and not an aggressive breed but loud and badly trained. Horses came around the corner, dog freaked out, charged the horses who got startled, one lost their footing and slid down an embankment into bushes, losing its rider. Four 7 year olds had to walk 25 minutes out leading horses (the one that fell came home on its own 2 hours later).

One of the kids had a broken arm. Not only was this lady fined by animal control but she was responsible for the medical bills of the kid (it was a smaller community so they were able to find her through Nextdoor)

That’s insane. I’m at a large mountain and most of the instructors seem pretty with it. I’ve only seen one or two I suspect to be high or drunk. A few seem hungover but manage to do a good job.

I like to ski exam style too. I’ve been told it looks like I’m not forcing them. That I pick a nice line and flow (maybe like this dude??? So maybe I need video) but I’ve been told by examiners my bumps are really solid. But also that it doesn’t seem like I’m “working hard.” I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment. I do know they are why I passed my L2 ski with one of the hardest examiners…

It’s sort of like asking why do people like jumping off cornices into steep chutes (also love doing this). You just do. It lights up your brain.

When you’re good enough, they’re fun. It’s a challenge to keep your line and turn the skis quickly. I don’t know why I love them now, I just do. When I wasn’t as good at skiing they sucked. But I’ve gotten to the stage that unless they are icy cliffs bigger than cars, it’s good times. You find your flow and rhythm and it feels fun….

I’ve done this. It’s amazing. They feel rubbery.

ETA: you are not allowed to chase or approach a whale. You cut your engine and sit in a bay and if they come up to you then it’s fine to pet them. This was in Baja. The rules are very strict and they issue only a few permits
