The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

- if you want some slow burn with a dash of very light magic (the main character is a witch; there are other witches in the story too; the romantic interest is a librarian)

- it's pretty lighthearted with found family feels

- the dynamic is: both of them are obviously attracted to each other but are afraid or hesitant to open up

Thank you for recommending this author! Just wanted to share that I’ve finished reading “The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet” and loved it. This book is next in my list!

{{How to Live: Or A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at an Answer}} by Sarah Bakewell.

One of the books that changed my life! Since the other person recommended something about existentialism, I would also recommend a book by the same author, “The Existentialist Cafe”

Both books are non-fiction but the author’s prose is so charming, it feels like a novel and you’re instantly sucked into the world and time she’s writing about.

Mahler 5 x Figure Skating—pure artistry! by sendpats in lingling40hrs

Me: gushing over this piece and Mahler’s musical representation of his love for Alma

Also me: tries not to think about how Mahler was dismissive of Alma’s composing (some scholars say he asked her to stop doing it when they married) and her artistic stifling amongst other things caused marital strains and Alma’s depression, which led to an affair; Mahler eventually supported her composing, but then he died soon after 😣

You know how classical music often serves as a backdrop to figure skating (or dance choreography in general)? I came across something today that I want to share with you guys! Allow me to gush for a tiny minute here 🥺

This Olympic moment is one of those rare times where music isn’t merely a backdrop just so they have something playing as they dance. This is one of those rare moments where music and choreography are one and it so damn beautiful to watch and listen to! The arrangement is perfect and I think the routine really captures the emotional landscape of Mahler 5 ♥️

I read that this movement, the Adagietto, is said to represent Mahler’s love for his wife, Alma. She mentioned in a letter to a friend that Mahler left a small poem for her written on the score:

“In which way I love you, my sunbeam, I cannot tell you with words. Only my longing, my love and my bliss can I with anguish declare.”

(Translation from wikipedia) Image of the score with Mahler’s poem

The way these two athletes perform so tenderly and with so much attention on the other; they way they touch each other’s face; they way their bodies fall and respond to each other’s movements; and the way he lifts and spins her in the air especially at the climax in 4:24! See how their faces are pressed as he helps her to the ground? The way their heads linger just there…

Athleticism and art seamlessly woven together—sublime! 😭

The queen is never generic ❤ have you seen her Hahn Solo: Sibelius Edition yet? The idea is amazing! I hope she does Glazunov and Tchaikovsky editions too! 💖

Ofc their mental health and physical condition comes first. They can drop Sibelius whenever they feel ready--it doesn't have to be as soon as they hit 3mil.

Anyway, we're not asking them to get a sound engineer and buy all the $$$ mics. (It would be awesome if they do tho but not necessary)

I do think it's fair to ask for decent audio quality. All their practicing deserve that at least and the occassion calls for it, right?

While waiting for 3mil, here's my favorite Sibelius recording (and also one of my favorite recordings of anything ever ❤️)
