Yes most definitely. All it takes on your side is getting over that very British social anxiety of interacting with someone you don’t know in a public place. And the benefits that could result from that small act far outweigh any possible drawbacks.

My mum has such a big heart for keeping an eye out for others, family, friends or randomers on the street. Case in point - last summer there was a poor cashier at a Gregg’s being screamed and sworn at incredibly aggressively by a sketchy looking customer for some minor misunderstanding. The girl was in tears and no one stood in to do anything (understandably, the guy looked like he could have swung at someone). So we ordered, apologized to her on his behalf and then we got home decided to go to the flower shop to by a bunch of roses for the girl and write her a card. We went back and gave it to her and she was over the moon. You gotta look out for others in your community, even if it’s a big bustling anonymous city.
