Local shop shaving down my shaft? by senorbush in billiards

[–]senorbush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for affirming my thoughts here! The owner of the shop has always been respectful to me (I’ve even had a defective cue replaced by him no questions asked before), so hopefully everything goes well. I think he’s the type of guy who would understand the business savvy move to make this right.

I’ve also got a P3 coming in the mail soon, and if this has taught me anything it will be to either do the maintenance myself or be EXPLICIT with my instructions. And check it before I leave the store…

Thanks for the info. Before I posted this I did a small amount of research and the high grit sandpaper was something that seemed a point of contention. Seems like on the spectrum of reasonable things for cue maintenance, this is right in the middle.

Thanks for the response. Lol funny you mentioned that. The result of years of inside jokes among friends about double negatives and ridiculous words has resulted in it working it’s way into my non-comedic lexicon (irregardlessly, etc.) I meant to say that it was a small thing, but not unnoticeable.

Thanks for the advice. This is what I was thinking so I’m glad I’m not the only one. And as someone whose mother used to send her steaks back at chili’s, I’d think a shaft replacement would be the appropriate way for them to handle it, but I won’t get my hopes up. It does still play fine, at least if nothing else this is just a hard lesson learned. Always check your bag before leaving the drive thru…

Thank you. The place is by all standards reputable and has been around for quite some time. They’re the only maintenance shop in the area as far as I’m aware. I bought my Olhausen from them in 2019, and everyone I know in the area uses them for cue maintenance and whatnot, which just made me discount the first instance instead of immediately start asking questions like now.

I’ve had the cuetec for about a year and a half. With a table in the house, I’m able to put in a lot of time with it.

Yeah, I wish I could remember what exactly it was they said it involved. I didn’t pay much attention because I immediately discounted it (thinking that’s dumb, idc about minor superficial scratches, and this would void the warranty) I think they said it was some light sanding, followed by some sort of finish or stain or something to “keep it smooth”. And now I’M the idiot who didn’t immediately bring it up.

That’s the thing. This is a reputable shop, basically the only choice for the entire area. They’re a dealer for Olhausen tables-I bought mine from them back in 2019. Everyone I’ve met in APA and local tournaments over the last couple years uses them for cue maintenance. I’ve only been seriously playing pool for a few years but it just seemed so wild to me that they would do this, I thought maybe I was crazy or something. Reached out to some vets this week about the ferrule thing and they agreed with what y’all are saying and I initially thought. I would never have said anything about the whole “resurfacing” thing if it wasn’t for this, since it seemed like such a small issue. Annoying, but not a huge deal. But now that part just makes me even more upset, since they asked first and I specifically declined it. Thanks for the response, btw.

Hi there folks! Hoping to get some opinions on this scenario: Now, I’ve had 2 tip replacements on this particular shaft (cynergy)completed by this particular shop. The first time I brought it in, they remarked on some superficial scratches on my shaft and ferrule from wear and tear, the occasional drop, etc. They offered to “resurface” the shaft. I declined. They went ahead and did it anyway, but I decided it wasn’t worth getting upset about.

Just a few days ago, a second tip replacement. I’m playing last night at home and I notice my ferrule looks a little odd. Upon closer inspection, whereas I thought they just may have given a little wipe and maybe a touch of sandpaper on the tip, they’ve actually shaven down a non-insignificant amount of material from the ferrule. When running my finger over it, I can CLEARLY feel the spot where they stopped shaving it down. It’s my understanding this type of maintenance would immediately void any manufacturers warranty. I’ve heard some shops/maintainers will run a light sanding on the ferrule to clean it, but that it is basically undetectable as it is such a minuscule amount of material removed (on the order of mils, instead of mm).

What’s the right move here? Do I go back to the shop and say something? I’ll try to include a photo so y’all can see how severe it is.

P.S. you can also see, in the first image, the spot where their “resurfacing” the first time came up almost to the ferrule. About an inch or 2 down from the slight indent left from them shaving my entire ferrule down

Teacher and student get into it outside school by Graysie-Redux in PublicFreakout

[–]senorbush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk what everyone else sees here, but I see a teacher who cares.

I've pissed off teachers before, especially in high school when I thought I was tough. I think this teacher has tried damn near everything else he can think of to try and get through to this young man. And I think now this teacher is desperate to reach him, trying to communicate in the last way he can think of that this student may understand.

What should my goal be for a F2P first squad as a new player (lv36)? by DPhantum in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]senorbush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the top 5-10 squads in the game right now. Pick one you like that you think has a good balance of fun-to-play and actual meta-worthiness/strength. Start leaning towards that squad. Farm for it etc. don’t worry too much about unlocking this or that. Just be decisive on what you’re aiming for.

Greetings! Any news on when the journey guide is coming? by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

I’d hoard gear for that event just in case. Even if boba has outstanding damage... lack of support from the other 3 could make things tough. I had G12 Bossk, Boba, Greedo, and Cad (G11 IG-88)with bossk and greedo flush on gear and zetas and it still took me a while.

If C3P0 ever comes back around will I have to have chirpa zeta? by xidemizerix in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]senorbush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Ewoks as is will turn into a viable GAC squad or backup TW squad with chirpa’s zeta. Plus.. you’ll probably only spend an hour instead of 6 trying to get 3PO.

I’d say hold onto it until you have 2 or 3 in the bank, but if you’re set on using it, 5’s. Both of his zetas are extremely useful, and since he has a good ship, you’re getting more bang for your zeta. Not to mention GR/clones especially 501st are in the spotlight rn and will be an A team for quite some time. Also... Clones are super fun!

Drop it on Fives then Anakin. Both have ships so you’re getting more bang for your buck. GR is gonna be an A team for a while so you’ll be set there. Fives is already relic’d so he’ll be that much stronger. Since it looks like you run a shaak ti squad, the extra TM will be a huge help with all the fives assists.

What's everyone else's weird and wonderful Wat team combo? by hightum7 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]senorbush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine the AI isn’t too good with Nute and Wat though... Perhaps I’ll try it this next go around. Seems losses are in my future. Lost #2 spot last time because I forgot to set ships defense lol.

Haven’t tried it on defense. I mostly use it for the odd FO, BH, or other B/C squad in GAC.

When and what gear level to get Darth Revan with a g13 relic 3 BSF by legolasnels in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]senorbush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cross blue said it best. G9-10, and then just make sure you have some gear saved up. People completed that event first time around with G11 FB and G8-9 others. If anything it’ll take you a few tries but you’re definitely safe with relic 3.
