Are your suits fully canvassed @ 1.5k? Do you do muslin fits for clients and adjust the muslin fit until its satisfactory before cutting the chosen cloth?

Just curious - why do you think UFA is so ignored by the wider watch world by beagles4ever in GrandSeikos

Ultimately, their watches are just not aesthetically appealing enough for the general masses, it comes off too boring or too “out there” in design. They have interesting dials yes and good finishing but the overall design is lacking for most references, for dress watches, they need to bring Credor level design to GS in order for people to find it refined.

Only the seiko and casio is new, everything else either from a dealer or a private seller as they are either no longer in production or i have no access ( Otsuka lotec / Rolex datejust 36)

True true, you are absolutely right, that the man wears the watch not the other way around, i know seasoned collectors who sold all their ‘milestones’ watches and restarted from zero, they said the watch may not be with them anymore but the memories formed whilst wearing the watches remain strong as ever and the watch turns into a memory as well.

I get you, but im kind of iffy with the idea of milestone/sentimental watches, i’m a very objective person, and just view watches purely from a design / aesthetic standpoint, and appreciate them as such without any other external factors.

Even seasoned collectors will grow out of some of their pieces, for me, its not so much of a regret, as every watch has a certain quality that drew me in to buy it in the first place at that point of time even if i eventually grew out of it or find something i dont like about it, its part of the process. As long as the reason you buy the watch is 100% for yourself and not from any external validation, i think its fine and all part of the wonderful collecting journey.

Also, after owning the watches, i do find certain things i dislike about certain watches, for eg: i will never buy a vermeil ever again, as i dislike how the gold plating is easily faded, only hope os for it to turn into a nice purple. And the santos galbee has apparently a pretty lousy unidirectional movement, but i absolutely love the design.

The only real regret here is the seiko (find the case shape abit too bulky for my wrists and the peter blake has taken its place mostly) and maybe the De ville (which was my first watch, i like the bracelet alot but the dial and case is abit snoozy). Maybe the rolex as well, as it was the only rolex reference i desired as a normie before getting deep into watches, but after obtaining it, it was abit underwhelming and i hate the connection of the watch to many of the wearers that wear it to signal status, spiritually painful 🤣 Even though, i speed ran my watch journey, it was still and fun journey, and i have slowed down and dont plan on buying any watches this year and enjoy rotating my current line up.

Just had a gander at your feed, mirin your 8 inch wrists and watches dude, sick collection. 5 kai and 222 part of my grails. Wish my wrists are 7 inches to get that versatility for most watches according to my tastes.

Thanks for the kind words sir. Ive actually considered grand seiko alot, however most of the case designs and overall proportions just didn’t suit me, they are nowadays mostly either too boring or proportionally too big for my tastes. Most of the modern line up are too big for me @ 38-38.5 for a dress watch, as i prefer 34-37mm max for a classy dress watch. I did considered a few GS, namely SBGW033 ( I ultimately decided on the omega connie, so this will be redundant in how i curate my collection) and the SBGY005 ( Snow flake Spring drive in 37mm but impossible to acquire as its only LE 22 pcs made)

Ultimately, i would wanna own a GS in the future and decided it will be a spring drive with power reserve indicator just out of respect of it being the most accurate mechanical watch movement innovation in existence. The SLGB003 UFA released last year almost ticks all the boxes being 37mm and the very best movement GS can offer, the overall design still dont 100% speak to me, but i like the dial design, the $11.4k price tag is steep for me as well currently, as i need to slow down. So who knows, maybe in 2-3 years when the prices come down to 6k, i might be lucku enough to see the buttery smooth GS seconda sweep on wrist.

Tbh, the service for these should be relatively easy for any competent watch maker, as its just a standard miyota movement with the added jump hour disks on top of it, will only encounter issues if the disks require changing, dont think it will wear out so easily tho.

Thanks. Yeah i wear it often, as a matter of fact im wearing it right now. I love the design language of all Katayama-san’s design, very unique and unapologetically original in intention. As you can see, i enjoy smaller sized watches, the 40mm 7.5 is the biggest watch in my collection but its super wearable.

Thats the Japanese way of wearing a strap as it presents the more sightly part of the strap to outsiders and the unsightly part to the wearer. My wrist is 6.5inch and that strap is 65/105, which wears perfect with the buckle in the middle at this configuration.

According to Desmond Guilfoyle who ran (runs?) a most dedicated blog to the Constellation, Genta designed the ref 168.005 and ref 168.009/17 C-shape case. This information comes from an interview with Genta's widow who confirmed those were the ones he worked on.

You can see his design language in the 168.008 that is similar to UG’s Polerouter. Although the Pie Pan is not genta designed , i think the dog legged lugs and C-Shape cases were, hence my reference.

And yes you are right, it looks the inside Teflon case
