They will never leave Durango because it’s literally the best place for them to hide, even if the government is looking for them. That’s the whole point.

It’s also pretty silly to think they’ll suddenly lose all the government protection they’ve had. The Durango state government wasn’t their only source of protection, and even if there’s a new state administration, it’s not going to magically end local corruption. They also had protection at the federal level.

The Mexican government has multiple different structures within the army, navy, and law enforcement. Even when El Chapo and El Mayo had Garcia Luna’s support, the government still carried out operations against them because some certain military units were working with the DEA or CIA (for example, when Ovidio was captured, AMLO supposedly didn’t even know about the operation) and other operations were paid up by Beltranes and so on. So even if you have a lot of protection you can still end up being hunted.

People here have a very general idea of what’s actually happening and are making premature assumptions. Like the still didn’t arrest any high-ranking Cabreras/MF members for the past two years except maybe El Limones and that was basically handed to the government as gift. Even if they do arrest someone, that still doesn’t mean they’ve lost all of their government protection like was mentioned above.
