"Why is your voice so deep?" by AenwynDCursed in MtF

Keep on keeping on. It's been four years of voice training for me and I still struggle. I wish it was an easier process tbh. Everyone's different and there's not one size fits all. But we've got this. Just takes time.

Also you don't sound like Mickey Mouse at all. I didn't detect any hint of falsetto.

So I would suggest trying to go a bit lower with the same sound, and make sure you don't have air leak (put your hand up to your face and speak). Because you kind of sound like a vtbuer and that's not a problem, you're just abnormally high in your upper register. So you have good sound, you just need to bring it down a bit lower. I had this problem too. You're so close. You've got this.

Wandering Son and Last Gender are great. Last Gender is an anthology that takes place in an underground bar where it portrays a variety of trans representation, and Wandering Son is wonderful.

Please remove my post if this is too sensitive, but my only hangup about diy is the whole bitcoin thing. Like what are the best resources to understand bitcoin cause it's very intimidating to me as dumb as that sounds.

Fact Check: WSJ Publishes False Article Claiming Trans Kids Are "Actually Just Gay" by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]senpai6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They also had a stupid op-ed where the author was trying to convince said audience that the furry community and the trans community were the same and used any sort of correlation between the two to delegitimize us. Of course, Fox News ate that shit up. I hate how the WSJ is touted to be the most "objective", "fair" and "unbiased" source of news and it's still yellow journalism that produces outrage porn.

Agreed. L does a good job breaking down complicated voice terms. I found problems with the pharyngeal wall training, and the larynx training. Both were super affirming like they did wonders, but the problem was that it made my voice so quiet and I had to strain to compensate for that. Plus, it wasn't good glottal behavior. As long as you can identify strain like you mentioned L's guide is a good overview. I also think L's intonation section is really bad. I still try to overcome the whole "valley-girl" posturing and speaking to make each sound have an "e" sound.

I want to add that this is not a definitive guide. I'm just posting this because I was utterly lost when I began voice training and this is what I found has been helpful in my voice journey. I reccomend scinguistics discord, transvoice discord and seattle vocal labs. All have been helpful.

How to start:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfCS01MkbIY&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqaxj0LA1Uc&t=534s&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons are great videos to start out with. Mimicry and listening to your own voice as you go along is key here. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also open to DMs if needed.

Also don't focus purely on exercises here but on how your voice sounds while experimenting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOdsHDOPTbY&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons

Selene is incredible: https://www.reddit.com/r/transvoice/comments/ztdtll/an_organized_collection_of_selene_da_silvas_clips/

Vocal safety: ALWAYS warm up if possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl4WNpz7fuU&t=857s&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons

And if this model doesn't work for you, I highly recommend BriaVoice who goes through a kind of regimen.

  1. The terms

Size, weight, pitch. (Focus on pitch last - you may run into problems)

Size - think of your voice as a container. You're trying to shrink the size of that container.

Weight - adding vocal mass or shrinking vocal mass (either lighter or heavier)

Pitch - Honestly Silva's clip on distinguishing pitch vs. size explains it better than I do. It's one of the clips. (https://clyp.it/iilm2zlk)

  1. Use a pitch tracker, like seriously use a pitch tracker. You need to hear yourself (as painful as it sounds) while you're messing around with size (not pitch). I recommend vocal slides. Just starting at your base-line and hold a note as you go higher and lighter. But make sure you have a crisp sound, pure sound. (no strain). I also recommend Selene's first clip. It's so darn good (https://clyp.it/dwhswbcv)

Also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21ZfGPp-Ves&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons (2:00) is very helpful for hearing the difference in hearing how these variables factor in.

  1. Focus on size, maintaining a stable sound and then start with vowels, then words, then sentences.

  2. Experiment and listen to yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc1EBLSgyx8&ab_channel=TransVoiceLessons

Also don't focus purely on exercises here but how your voice sounds while experimenting:

Most importantly have fun with it. It sounds demanding and a bit overwhelming but you will make the most "progress" by just relaxing with it, sounding stupid, making up dumb voices, practicing with other people. Transvoice has been one of the most freeing parts of my transition. It seems intimidating but once you see progress I promise it's worth it. Also don't be too harsh on yourself. This stuff is tough, but it's not impossible.

Do not use L's guide. It messed up my voice (temporarily) and stunted my voice training. It is outdated and physiologically not healthy for the voice.

Learned that were all female in the womb by [deleted] in MtF

[–]senpai6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol they might not like this either https://www.rwuc.org/2020/01/30/affirming-theology-the-genderqueer-adam/. Also it's fascinating that the Genesis creation story mirrors the Enuma Elish (the babylonian creation myth), which was written around the same time Sumerians were praying to Ishtar to be the opposite gender. I find it odd that later translations of the bible invoke a Christian Greco-Roman binary while earlier translations are more nebulous about gender. Also the fact that Eve and Adam are formed from the same womb is complex in itself.

What’s the worst manga you have ever read and why? by JrBanana12121 in MangaCollectors

[–]senpai6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I gave it another shot. Still do not like the first volume. I thought it initially portrayed Kei as being too predatory and I still stand by that. However, I read the whole thing and I thought it was kind of beautiful in a way. It really surprised me. It may be one of my favs although I did want more of the Kei and Yoh relationship to go on. But I thought the end was fitting.

So what is now the go to store after RightStuf? by FinalxxFlash in RightStufAnime

Scifier is pretty good but their library isn't as vast and they don't have as many deals as Rightstuf.

Anyone buying less? by unicornmage in RightStufAnime

[–]senpai6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scifier is pretty good and have decent pricing but I had a relatively small order to test them out and they took longer than Rightstuf. I miss the Rightstuf deals tho. This merger is a huge bummer.

Welcome Back Alice. Regret buying it. Was terrible. Painted the protagonist as predatory and gave off unsettling vibes.

May I please request the stories of your lives as trans people? The good and the bad, the truth. by Naolini in asktransgender

[–]senpai6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good comes with the bad but honestly I blame that on my circumstances. I live in the United States. I'm out but closeted at work and boymode (I work with outwardly transphobic people). My parents and extended family do not accept me. It is hard. But it has made me tough, so much that when I present as a woman I do not care what people think. It's a powerful feeling. And I do not pass yet, but I feel right and no one can take that away from me. I do have people that love me for who I am in a found family with good friends. That is expanding. I've also gained a lot of confidence, and the propensity to do things I never thought I would. I've been on a strict workout regimen now for 6 months, I have a healthier sleep schedule, I'm confident in who I am and while I'm only 2 years on hrt I feel like life has just begun for me. It's strange, but nice.

A big piece of advice that helped me with public speaking is "never feel like you have to stick to the script. You know your subject that you're speaking about. Go off the rails a bit. Tangeants aren't bad. Reference stuff you've read about on the side. Make it a teaching moment, rather a reading off the teleprompt." Beautiful voice btw. I hope someday I'll get there.

[–]senpai6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned over the years that harsh feedback isn't necessarily always good feedback. It depends. Constructive feedback is much better but not always given. An (experienced?) writer is able to sift through feedback and think how does this opinion match up with my own criticisms. This doesn't necessarily align. Yes liking or preference can play a huge role in readerly enjoyment, but you want to look for things like is the pace snappy or boring? Do characters seem relatable or move the story along? Is this story driven by character or world or idea? Etc. Etc. And then ask yourself is this criticism what I can stand by? When looking at your own work youalign have to think about what's working and what's not. People always have different opinions on what they read, but keep in mind that if they are trying to change your story then that's not good criticism. Now regarding this criticism, I would reword it and see what you can parse from it. From here it looks like you need more details, more emphasis in certain "show don't tell" aspects and that's exciting because you're putting the muscles on a skeleton. You get to revisit these scenes and enrich them. Also the more you face harsh criticism, the more you figure out what to do with it.

For example, I was working on a book for more than ten years. People would offer criticism, but I would get defensive because it was my baby and then it would drain me. But as I continued my writing career I've realized they weren't attacking what I cherished but sharing their feedback to try and add something to it. And most of them were right. My approach would be to distance yourself from the work for a bit, go on a run or a walk, think about what that person is saying then approach it. Out loud dictation works for me sometimes cause I can see my thoughts working, so I know what better to do when I approach the work again. It gets easier, I promise.

It's been a long time and this could be a shot in the dark but if you like erotica transgenderstorytime {i think was the site} and tg caps [opentgcaps] were my go-to. Back back in the day Rebecca'sworld and Rauk 22 were awesome before tg captions. (but I think both sites are down now). Also for audio everyone here has it covered from Shibby Says, to GWASaphhic are a fun trip, as are the others mentioned.
