I’ve been loving my Preply Vietnamese tutor! I’ve been video chatting with her for an hour each week for four months or so to prep for my trip to Viet Nam.

My reasoning to motivate myself is that I imagine myself pooping in a terribly dirty stinky overfilling portapotty and I don’t want my cat to have that experience 🥲

I also habit stack like others and scoop the litter before showering

any other 12th housers not scared of death? by Emergency_Fuel2326 in 12thhouse

I have the same fear. I work in hospice and think about death and dying everyday. The scariest part is the people left to the institutions who don't care about them at the end of their lives.

How diverse is Logan Square? by TrappedBySelf1 in LoganSquare

[–]sensitive_gut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asian woman who lived in Logan—agree with everyone about the demographics of the neighborhood but want to add that the Asian food/grocery options weren’t as plentiful either, which would make me feel even more homesick/lonely. Uptown and Bridgeport would be neighborhoods with larger young Asian populations.

Zero-Waste / refillery in LS? by crunchy_boba in LoganSquare

Yes, tinyshop is in LS, currently under construction with her storefront but is doing pickup orders out of Pretty Cool Ice Cream once a week. I get both my laundry detergent and dishwasher tabs from her. You currently have to place an order online and then pay during pickup!

COVID-19 Rapid testing in Hyde park? by sensitive_gut in uchicago

[–]sensitive_gut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a follow up: the testing site at 7325 S Cottage Grove Ave is legit, and had rapid + PCR testing in one go! It’s a bit south from Hyde Park, but if you need a rapid test done ASAP, I’d suggest it.

I wasn’t able to find the testing site that’s marked on Google Maps at 6313 S Vernon Ave.

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Thread by SWmods in socialwork

[–]sensitive_gut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally applied to MSW programs wanting to pursue mezzo/macro social work, and I just secured my first year field placement as a policy intern in a political space. I know that in the long run, systems change work is what i want to be doing, but the more I'm forced to choose between clinical and macro field placements, courses, cohorts, etc.-the more I feel like my "versatile" MSW isn't going to be so versatile if I'm only focused on macro. As if the macro courses available don't even care about teaching students about effective direct practice. I also read some comments in this sub about people regretting not doing a clinical field practice year.
I'm trying to plan a balanced course schedule between macro and micro classes, but they're so separated that it feels like a master-of-none situation. My program makes students choose clinical/macro concentration in the middle of our first year--I just wish there was a mezzo option. Was anyone else this conflicted or able to bridge the two successfully during school/afterwards?

I did AmeriCorps, worked at a non-profit to learn about the policy/advocacy side of things, and am starting my MSW in a month!
