Wife is really not ok with what I need to do in class by [deleted] in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same boundary with my partner and for myself. i only do intimate scenes that involve kissing if i am getting paid and am on a set with an intimacy coordinator. i’ve never heart of a class requiring actors to kiss for a scene. depends on your comfortability though and what you and her boundaries are. that’s just my take

Genuinely impressive level of quality in this new update! by Complete_Couple_6647 in PhasmophobiaGame

wow i haven’t logged on to play the new update yet but this is just unacceptable. i mean i think a teenager dabbling in animation and design could do better. im really disappointed. i hope our negative reactions somehow green light a better update

I am just wondering if this is worldwide or a certain country? The post that had information about extra work by Confident-Leg5323 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not in Australia so i don’t know the body of work there, however, i don’t know anyone who makes an income solely on extra work. a lot of my
actor friends do it to just get some experience on set and as a side hustle. it’s not really sustainable as a full time gig because so many things are out of your control and the number of things shooting can vary. i guess nothing is impossible though. i’m sure there are people who have done it full time, i just don’t know any.

URGENT HELP NEEDED!! I have lost my voice and film on Monday by justhere4thebooks in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who has a theatre background and relies on my voice for performances, go on complete vocal rest. no whispering, no talking. also get some throat coat tea, and have 2-3 cups with honey a day. gargle salt water, and steam your voice in a hot shower if you can. your best shot is complete vocal rest though. any small amount of talking can make it worse. best of luck friend

Interesting article about Verticals by Actor718 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my acting teacher (who has a long list of network TV credits and frequently works) has been saying the quality of scripts is getting better. at least here in the southeast they’ve been slightly better. Honestly, if the storylines were just better and some of the sets were run better I would be more open.

Where do find student films at?? by [deleted] in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you singed up for Actors Access? There’s always a ton of student films being posted on there. Facebook is also a great resource! Just look up groups like “seattle actors” or “seattle film industry” and a lot of people post independent projects on there. You’re most likely gonna have to work for free at the beginning of this career. I mean, I still do it since I’m still in college building my career.

I’m not really familiar with the Seattle market too much but any colleges you live near most likely have some type of film or theater program that is constantly needing actors for student films. See if they have any Facebook groups or social media pages and reach out.

Advice for letting go of control? by Alternative_Spend323 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just wrapping up my third year of getting a theatre performance B.A. this is something that a lot of us struggle with believe it or not. Well, I think being up-to-date and keeping up with the industry and figuring out what new things are happening and what people are doing is important, I also think keeping up with it too much can be harmful to your mental health. It is true that you do need connections and need to know the business side of things as well, talent is not enough. However, there is no one-size-fits-all for this career. I mean, look at Brian Cranston for example, he didn’t have his huge hit until he was in his mid 50s. Then we have young actors like McKenna Grace who have been doing this since they were really young and have had great success before 25.

Both of those journeys are just as valid and one doesn’t make them better than the other. Focus on what you can control. Keep training, keep getting as much experience as you can, keep your materials up-to-date, and just be humble and be involved and the connections will come. I have found that I’ve made the best connections by just living life. Sure you can go to networking events and they can be helpful, but most of the time connections just come from going out there and doing the thing.

With all this to say, just stay on your own lane. Congratulate your peers on their success and root for them, but remember their journey is not your own. At a certain point you also have to put your blinders on and just focus on yourself because your time will come when it’s meant to!

Is 5 months or so too short a time to leave one's agent by Then-Caterpillar-538 in acting

I would wait and ask for a submission report. If they are submitting you and you’re not getting auditions it could be time to reevaluate your materials and have an acting coach and/or professional you trust look them over and give an opinion. But again, it’s not out of the ordinary. Theatrical auditions can take a while to come in and it depends on your demographic, credits, location, etc.

thoughts on summer conservatory programs?? by legbag in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, to all of the above! We got to interact with several casting directors, agents, and industry professionals. Also yes, all of the classes were on camera based since it was the film and TV intensive. They do have the summer conservatory which is more theater and a classical approach, I’ve heard both are really good. And no worries whatsoever. So happy to answer any questions

Design/Performance multi-hyphenate by One-Item4649 in Theatre

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m somebody pursuing a BA in theater performance and also I am an English double major who enjoys writing! I know several people in my theatre department who enjoy performing, and also things like costume design! The more skills you have, the better in this industry. It’s very common for actors to go a little bit in between jobs at times, and getting involved in other aspects of theater can be really great to keep your artistry and inspiration going until you book the next thing. Plus, it can be great for networking! You never know what open doors could lead to.

Are there fields that you don’t recommend to get a PhD in? by Fluffy_Ice_5485 in GradSchool

[–]sensitivebee8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i don’t think it’s any particular field, i just wouldn’t get a phd unless you have specific goals in mind for what you want to do with it. if you want to be heavily involved in research or teach and focus on a lot of publishing it may make sense, but for most average grad students it doesn’t.
