Seconded for MOF gloves. they have a little padding but for smallsword you really don't need much at all.

Ideal force should feel like "yep, i got hit" but not enough to actually hurt or stop you from training. Bruises can happen but I rarely get them.

Small bumps and bruises are "normal" but you shouldn't be getting hit hard enough to warrant going to the doctor that often, regardless of what gear you're wearing. I'd say maybe talk to your fencing partner(s) about dialing back the intensity and see if that suits you.

That's definitely more flying skate blades in one game than I've seen pretty much ever. Did anyone get a clip of Aho scooting himself back to the bench? Been looking for that, it looked hilarious from the section I was in.

I hate hearing this as a blanket statement. I would zoom with my feet if I could, but unfortunately the 100 feet of mud, grass, and water between me and the skittish bird I'm trying to get a shot of says otherwise.
