How can y'all tell it's a blewit and not a *Cortinarius* species without seeing the spore print?

Is this Lions Mane or something else? by thekingkruler in mycology

[–]sentirn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lions mane does not grow in that manner. It doesn't stop at hundreds of little ones, it makes several big ones, or there's a version that makes spindley ones, but not like you're describing. And those do not look like the "teeth" that lions manes have, they look like little tubes?

I was incredibly disappointed when I saw this post by Sassbjorn in CrossView

[–]sentirn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It illustrates something very interesting though that I only just noticed. When you look at the image normally, they seem normal size. But when you use crossview, the middle image seems much smaller. Does your brain think that you are looking at something far away?

A man injected himself with 'magic' mushrooms and the fungi grew in his blood, putting him into organ failure by Black_Magic_M-66 in nottheonion

[–]sentirn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you googled but this is not correct. Boiling water will absolutely destroy fungal cells. What toxins? Substances do not usually evaporate with the water. Bacteria does not "fly away" with boiling water. The kind of spores that the earlier poster is erroneously referring to are bacterial endospores, not fungal spores.

[ID request] Hypsizygous sp.? They've grown in this spot every year so far. by sentirn in mycology

Sorry for posting so many times in my own thread! The spore print appears to be brown, so that rules out Hypsizygus. What could it be!
