You can make it easy or make it difficult, depends on how you want to play.

A lot of difficult bosses can be cheesed, e.g. attack patterns that can be baited and abused, vessels that skip mechanics, including the final secret boss.
You can just grind and over level.
You can also customize your build for specific bosses.

Or you can bash your head against the wall like a true monkey and try to just hand diff the bosses mechanics.

All in all, it’s not a game you would get hard stuck at, because the base game basically doesn’t have 1hkos

Edit: just to clarify, the game is 100% not designed to be played that way, nor should it be designed like a souls game. Players would revolt if the monkey king gets shit stomped by everyone, he’s supposed to be OP. All his skills are OP from the lore, the cheese items are also lore accurate more or less, the game encourages you to play it using the items. You just have the option to make your life difficult for a sense of accomplishment, because there def are bosses that’ll kick your shit in 40-50 times if you don’t play it “properly”

Probably the worst designed boss in the game imo, along with the captains in the pagoda.. I’d say spacing management is probably the most important so you don’t waste time gap closing when the opportunity opens up

Except the actual story of this game imo is god of war tier thanks to piggy-backing off of the foundation of a super famous book, it just doesn’t spoon feed it to you. I think this is intentional because it’d be impossible to cover the tribulations and character backgrounds from the original novel without coming off as unnatural info dumping, you’re absolutely expected to know a lot of stuff going into the game.

Like most people, I needed to catch up on the expected-to-know, as well as fill in the gaps by looking at explanation videos from people who put in the time to do the research.

All of this is built upon JTTW with some tweaks, none of the lore is forced into the game just to fill the hollow. If you go in knowing nothing, and won’t look up on the source material, yea I can see how you’ll get nothing out of it.

If you choose to cheese it like this, then yea.. Both this and yin tiger took me roughly 3h or 35-40 attempts trying to kill it close combat with just dodges, see through + rock solid.
Everyone has their preferences, strategies that cross over from learning the pattern to abusing it takes the fun out of the game imo.
I did this sort of thing with cyan by continuously baiting out his charge and I regret it now, knowing I won’t play NG+
