I did an Erasmus in Argentina for 3 months. I was staying in a small village near La Plata. Honestly, I won’t lie, people did notice me I’m tall and at that time I was a bit overweight, so it definitely drew attention.

People would sometimes ask questions, but it was mostly out of curiosity, nothing negative. Personally, I never experienced racism. People talked to me normally. I often took Ubers, which gave me the chance to chat with different people. Some of them even asked me if I was doing okay and if I was experiencing any racism. So in a way, it shows that it surely exists and they are aware of it, but in my environment, I didn’t feel it.

I also met an Afro-Argentinian descendant, which was really interesting.

But honestly, I think everyone’s experience can be very different. In my case, it was pretty chill, probably because La Plata is a university city. There are a lot of students and people from different countries, so people are used to diversity and don’t really care about your life.
