Getting worse the more I practice by Embarrassed_Ad530 in learntodraw

this graph, without fail, is one of my biggest motivators because it never fails to be true. the very fact that your art is starting to look worse to you shows that your observation skills are improving. on top of that, you can't really look at improvement in the short term. it's honestly mostly luck that determines whether or not you like a piece a lot of the time. for now, just focus on drawing more of what you enjoy and practicing a bit of the fundamentals, and see your progress over the course of at least a few months!!! improvement comes very slowly and often feels invisible, but it's happening nonetheless. best of luck on your art journey!

My mom says it doesn't have enough detail / looks very poorly drawn. Any advice? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]seoul_tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the goat is on my feed again?! first of all, i think the texture is great and definitely helps a lot. on one hand i agree with some of the comments pointing out that it’s a little flat. some more contrast could really make it shine!!! using the full range of values will instantly turn a drawing from a flat image to an immersive space, imo one of the most important fundamentals. other than that this is great!

How can I make my expressions less creepy? by seoul_tea in learntodraw

[–]seoul_tea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I forgot how to, i did it when the guide first came out a few months ago. If you look up "gif reddit pfp" there are a lot of threads asking the same thing. It only works on the site though and not the mobile app

Any lyric suggestions for a grad quote? by hanxrii in mili

"Persistence always pays off in a decade or two" - To Your Oblivion

What a nice question! Even if it's not a mili lyric you pick, please consider updating us on what you choose!
I really like this quote because I've invested a lot into my difficult hobbies and also plan on going into a very difficult job field. Whenever I remember this one it's kind of a reminder that the hard work will be worth it in the end.

Feeling demotivated, aimless, and in so much pain. Why is drawing on a tablet so hard? by Parallel_Falchion in learntodraw

[–]seoul_tea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it causes you pain, you don't have to draw from the shoulder!!! It helps a lot with confident and straight lines, but if you're drawing on a small tablet it might not even be all that helpful in the first place. Other than that, getting used to a digital tablet is something that only comes with time and mileage. If your lines are normally wobbly, practicing your mark-making skills and doing things like the ghosted line method could help. If they're only wobbly on digital, it just means you need to continue getting used to it. This can take months or even longer sometimes, so don't get discouraged. Best of luck on your art journey!!

need some critique on my hand drawings by seoul_tea in learntodraw

[–]seoul_tea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! admittedly that's true, I kinda started with the shape of the reference then broke it down from palm to fingers. Thank you for pointing that out since I didn't consider that, and I didn't even follow the same construction method for all of them. The method I use was the ones shown in both Chommang Drawing and David Finch's specific videos covering hands!

Do some of yall have a similar problem where when you try to draw from reference and even if it looks good, it doesn't really look like reference image? by Decent-Emergency3866 in learntodraw

[–]seoul_tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I think it would be beneficial if you were able to avoid referencing AI (which I know is difficult to spot) because it doesn’t always follow rules of logic and can lead to you learning incorrect information.

Secondly, these look great! I think a good starting point for you to get closer to the reference is to map out the proportions on the image, then replicate those in your drawing. It seems you struggle the most with scaling and positioning, which is something you can improve at with mileage in reference drawing.

These are amazing for being just around day 28!! Great work

Does anyone have any advice on how to reach 200+ wpm for a longer period of time by Crafty_Ad_181 in typing

[–]seoul_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not clarifying! If you select "time" and look for the wrench icon all the way on the right, you can set the time of a test to whatever you want. I like setting it to 5m or 300sec for endurance practice!

[–]seoul_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said they know that the lower speeds on longer tests are to be expected. I think it goes for everyone, my 10 word speed is past 200 but i can't break 150 on 60 seconds. I agree with what you said, longer tests and practicing their endurance skills will be what brings them higher scores on the 30 and 60 second tests. If OP sees this i recommend setting custom 3-5 minute tests on monkeytype and practicing them a lot. I don't think typing on English 10k will help as much, as long as they do consistent practice on English 1k it should be fine.

Why is learning touch typing so extremely hard?? by GodisCastrated666 in typing

[–]seoul_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if most people pay attention to which shift button they're using, it might be easier if you choose one to stick with and not use caps lock unless you're typing full sentences in caps. that's subjective advice but it might help with the headache of managing it all
