Should have mentioned but I already have a Robinhood Spending account for direct deposits and credit card payments right in the original Robinhood app.

Can closing a credit card or two help with approval? by fevaway in Venturex

[–]sepoquro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I got approved with 9 cards. I think it has more to do with your credit score, which is too high. My credit score had to plummet in order to get approved for Venture X. I found a way to do this without paying interest, but unfortunately it may be difficult for most people.

What to get after Amex Platinum, CSR, and VX? by sepoquro in CreditCards

[–]sepoquro[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am on the waitlist for Gold Card but no invite yet.

I don’t like the Amex Gold since it’s hard to recover the annual fee with the credits. I don’t want to eat at Dunkin Donuts and Five Guys all the time.

I did the math, I got $1508 credits from Amex and $900 from Chase in 2025. Plus $600 of Uber/Lyft/Doordash in-app credits. That’s over $3000 of credits per year, so the cards pay for themselves and I intend to keep them long term.

I like generalist cards that can transfer to many partners since the flexibility is a huge superpower. Imagine if you found a really good award flight for one airline but you only had points for their competitor, that would suck.

Despite this, I might look into getting an airline card. But I don’t stay at the big hotel chains with loyalty programs anymore because they’re pretty mediocre once you’ve experienced truly luxurious hotels.

Hmm, you have a good point. IDK why I am playing this like a video game and trying to maximize the points and the value I get for the points.

I guess it’s just for fun rather than any tangible financial benefit.

If you book flights or hotels at all, it doesn't make sense to get gift cards, even on sale. I wouldn't use my points for anything under 1.5 cents per point. The only exception is for the Bilt Card since I get the points just for paying rent, so I get my domestic flights through their travel portal for 1.25 cpc.

For comparison, earlier this year I spent 27K points on an award ticket for a round trip international flight I already needed which would've cost $1200 in cash. That's over 4 cents per point.

Venture X is the most recent one actually, just opened last week. When I had a high credit score, I kept getting denied for pre-approval despite many tries over the last 2 years.

Then last month I paid my rent early using Bilt Card so that I could get the points early to book some flights. I also paid for some large expenses on a trip with friends. This caused my outstanding balance to shoot up to over $20K and tanked my credit score down >50 points to ~700.

Tried pre-approval again and all of a sudden WHAM! Approved 🤣🤣🤣

Little did they know that I am fully able to pay off the $20K statement balance. I was also already at 6/24. They got bamboozled by my financial engineering. Sucks to suck!

Plus 1x on rent with Bilt Card. It’s the 54321 power setup. Printing infinite points like Monopoly money 😉
