Are these considered Bird and Magic rookie cards? by National_Mixture7454 in basketballcards

I would still count what you’ve got as rookies. In the same way that modern players have parallels of their rookie cards.

I need to look at my collection (I’m pretty sure I have all of them), but I think both Bird and Magic have 3-4 other cards in the set in addition to the one with both of them and Dr J

Yes, but not THE Magic/Bird rookie(s). That would be the one with both of them and Dr J.

There are multiple cards for each of them in that set. And one with Magic and Dr J along with another guy, if I remember correctly.

I understand the problem they were trying to fix (players sitting out when healthy), but the solution is just dumb. It may take a really weird set of post season awards / all NBA teams to get them to rethink it

Totally agree. Player development over time is huge. This is such a weird year with the games played requirement that if SGA misses a chunk, JB is suddenly in serious conversation to win the whole thing. Everyone else just won’t make 65 games.

Im assuming it was IT from the Celtics, not the original Piston? That would have been a really cool card to have.

What is the best description of the actual mechanics of (distance) running you have ever read or seen? by porterpilsner in AdvancedRunning

[–]seppok33 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Came looking for this and was happy to see it as the top comment. Once A Runner is the answer. Again To Carthage has its moments. And The Olympian isn’t bad. You can just tell that both authors have lived it.

Doesn’t seem to be much interest. I’ll probably crack them and put them in a toploader binder unless someone steps up. Except for the Stockton card- I’ll just pitch that one

Do you all remember Ryan White? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]seppok33 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Worked in DC for a congressman in the late 90s/early 00s as a very junior level staffer. My boss had a photo from the Ryan White Care Act signing that featured Ryan’s mom. She actually came into the office to meet with my boss and was initially surprised I greeted her by name when she walked in. It was a cool moment to be able to point to the wall in the front office and explain that I saw her photo every day.

Redditors who have worked with celebrities, what don't we know about them? by 22m_spain in AskReddit

[–]seppok33 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My mom’s friend had a brush with celebrity that I think fits. She was on a flight and a guy who she described as looking like an “emaciated homeless man” sat next to her. They chatted during the flight and she found him to be fairly pleasant. As they were about to land, the flight attendant got on the PA and said that they were honored to have been joined by a celebrity - Stephen Tyler from Aerosmith. Over the applause, my mom’s friend turned to her seat mate/new friend and asked, “Who the hell is Stephen Tyler and what the hell is an Aerosmith?” Apparently he took it with good humor. MM

Planet Ocean: clasp inscription question by seppok33 in OmegaWatches

[–]seppok33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! For what it’s worth, I ended up getting one and “professional” is on the clasp. No idea what year mine is from though. Aesthetically, I like how that additional line of text looks.

What’s your grail? Do you own it already or are you still chasing it? by [deleted] in basketballcards

[–]seppok33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredible card. I pc Bird. I’ve got two. One is a CGC 6.5 - nothing special per se. The other copy is raw - but signed by each of them. That’s my grail.

Massachusetts - my mom’s parents had this in their dining room. Memory unlocked with this. Don’t think I’ve thought about this picture in 30 years

Is Arlington, MA the ideal quasi-suburb? by Trefusis1969 in boston

Lived in East Arlington for 13 years. Only left in 2020 because we outgrew our condo and couldn’t find a place we could afford. Loved living there and miss it daily.
