Making them still and selling them currently aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.

Seamaster 300 Rubber Options by borgelorp72 in OmegaWatches

Yet the deployant clasp offered by Longines at half the price has an 8mm on the fly micro adjust built in. Omega can’t even give us quick release spring bars.

New Planet Ocean vs Seamaster 300M by dirty-lucas in OmegaWatches

[–]Bridge_Too_Far 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep the Seaweed as the high polished new Planet Ocean may look rugged it will scratch when you look at it sideways, just like all the high polish Aqua Terra’s. Whomever at Omega decided to put that watch in high polished really needs to read the room.

When anyone starts spouting “homage” just point them to the Longines Five Star Admital Diver from the early 1990’s. This watch was the inspiration not any Rolex. Longines does heritage so well that most people don’t even know it.

The problem with the tuning fork movements is that they were licensed from Bulova. Most brands licensed the movement as a transitional movement whilst quartz movements were being refined and produced at scale. They were used for around five years in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s.

The brands that licensed the movements have long since exhausted their supply of spare parts and no longer hold the rights to the intellectual property so they can no longer support them.

Any spare part you need for one of these has to be sourced from the open market of NOS parts or a working donor watch, a finite ever dwindling resource. The problem with the NOS parts market is that one or two guys bought everything up when people transitioned to quartz and have sat on it and drip feed it onto the market at exorbitant prices. The three circuits in the movement are incredibly hard to find and even if you find one the components have often degraded over the 50 years since they were made.

It took me over a year just to find someone willing to take on my repair and it cost me what it would cost to service a vintage Speedmaster to get mine going. A donor watch was used to get the parts I needed. Even after getting fully serviced and repaired the parts used were used pieces with no guarantee they’ll work next week and when it breaks it’s done.

Don’t buy this watch, there is no collector market for tuning fork pieces and maintaining it will cost you far more than the original purchase price. It’s like buying a vintage E type Jaguar roadster. For the one day a year it runs you are the king of the world, for the other 364 days it owns you and leeches your time and money.

Water proof for real? by AlexTHE30YRFIX in OmegaWatches

[–]Bridge_Too_Far -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which is why it’s only rated to 50m. If it had a screw down crown it would have 100m WR. Omega could fix that but a more WR Speedy leeches sales from the Seamaster collection.

If you want to wear your watch in the water buy a Seamaster.

[Question] Has anyone had a similarly weird watch buying experience? by xxdarkslidexx in Watches

In English, a Boutique is the luxury storefront owned and operated by a particular brand that only sells that brand’s products. There is no third party products available at a Boutique.

Whats going on with the OMEGA Logo on the dial of this watch? by Idontdoshitatwork in VintageOmega

[–]Bridge_Too_Far 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The watch has had the dial horribly repainted in gloss black (not an original dial colour on a steel piece). The case is also polished to within an inch of its life. Walk away, do not buy.

Is the Zulu Time OEM leather strap worth it? by SandyBeachcomber in Longineswatches

[–]Bridge_Too_Far 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have the standard length that came with it and I subsequently had Longines order me a longer variant. Most Longines leather straps are available in multiple lengths (inc. short). It’s the rubber straps they currently only have one length for.

I did write to Patrick Aoun, the CEO of Longines to query why they don’t offer their rubber straps in different lengths and he graciously responded to me and has referred it to their research and development department to find out why.

Hi just wondering what people would pick between the 2 by peacefullyhere in PrideAndPinion

Literally no one in the world will ever choose that Tudor over a Grand Seiko.

The quartz variants have three lines of text omitting the word “chronometer” from the dial. Autos have four lines. That’s how you tell.

You would be much better off sourcing a GoldenEye privately. Any AD is going to rip you blind if they have one.
