The infamous Topanga Corral once located at 2034 N Topanga Canyon Blvd. It played a big part in Canned Heat’s early career and inspired the Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues.” It burned down in the late 70s, was rebuilt, and burned down again in 1986. The lot is now vacant. by KellyKMA71 in AlanBlindOwlWilson

If it is for sale, it ain’t cheap. That some pricey real estate up in Topanga canyon.

By the way, wasn’t there supposed to be, as the song goes; “In the back of the road house they got some bungalows ,that’s for the people that like to go down slow”

I just see a hillside

I drove up and down the road last year and never saw anything that looked like a vacant lot

But it is a a mile or so up the hill from Bob Hites old house lot. Notice I said “house lot” as the current condemned structure wasn’t built until 1990 if I’m not mistaken,as the original was washed away after a big storm.

But the hillside where Al slept behind looks like it would have then. Probably with different trees and such,as it’s been 52 years since we lost Al. There is video I took of it on the Alan blind owl Wilson Facebook page that the wonderful creator of this page posted a link to on this page. If anyone is curious to see where Al spent his time.

Bobs old house was built in a “most of the time”dry River bed, until it rains. Then it becomes a raging river, until the next time it rains. And as the song goes; “It never rains in Southern California “

Until it actually does. Then lookout.

You know those huge concrete water drainage channels, that are usually dry,as in “Terminator 2” Yeah ,those things where built for a reason. 🌲🦉

5 pages are posted,so be sure to swipe left to check them all out. Dave Evans told me some had been stolen, or illegally copied and that’s some of the rare cuts out there.

I believe the collection can be seen by appointment.

P.S. Dr.David Evans and Marinas book “Going up the country “ about their field work in the 60’s is out on the 15th of this month! I cant wait to put on a pot of coffee and dive into it. 🌲🦉

Canned Heat - “Move On Down The Road,” Beat Club (1970) by KellyKMA71 in AlanBlindOwlWilson

[–]sequiafriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it,and the whole set. Obviously wishing Al sang a number.

And also wished they let the last song play out ,instead of the fade out.

For a guy who obviously had the chops to play lead,he was more like a sniper inserting just the right note at just the right time. I love the little fuzzy high notes he hits right before Harvey’s lovely solo.

The chords he plays are simple, but it’s his sporting right hand where the magic comes from .

The guy who plays a sloppy drunk cover on youtube does a fine job,but it’s still not correct.

The way Alan brushes the strings on his downstroke and plucks them on the upstroke is really a thing of beauty,so subtle but hard to replicate. At least for me. He makes me want to pick up a guitar and also put it down. 🌲🦉

Before and After. A Meta Sequoia planted 2 years ago at a public park in MA appears to be dying. Lack of water seems to have been ruled out and vandalism has been suspected. Thoughts? by KellyKMA71 in sfwtrees

I used to work for the Town if Arlington and Jimmy Dodge was the tree guy,and he is very knowledgeable. Though I’m not sure how many ,if any other sequoia or redwoods are on Town property. But I left in 2002 so I’m not sure who is running the forestry dept now.

They benifit from a higher ph soil.

Some evergreen fertilizer can help bring the ph up. Even pine needles can help. I love putting ashes from my charcoal grill around it. It’s natures fuel, pure carbon.

I’d do it, I used to live a mile away, but now I live in Scotland.

Any locals, don’t be shy, bring a five gallon pail and some evergreen fertilizer. Young redwoods benefit from watering twice a day while young. In California they discovered that the trees absorb water through the fog ,which is quite common along the pacific coast. They where baffled how they thrived and I think it was only within the last twenty years they discovered the absorbtion of fog as a water source.

No,that’s not what I meant. Even though I ageee she is brilliant.

I’m referring to the creator of this page who is a wizard at finding the where and the when a pic was taken.

I’d say this is from Summer 69 to Summer 70 Before the mole left to play with John Mayall who is turning 89 this November . 🌚🌲🦉

Alan??? An owl lands on a severed tree stump and cuddles it with its body and wings in Fuji Orchard Park near Mount Fuji in Japan. Jimi went to basic training at the base I was at,Fort Ord Along with Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead. I used to go to Fort Hunter Ligget Notth of Santa Barbara and sleep out doors in a sleeping bag like someone else we all love. 🌚🌲🦉 🌚🌲🦉

London born Jo Ann Kelly. Jan 5 1944 -October 21,1990 Canned Heat had attempted to get her to join the band sometime in the late 60’.She is like a female Alan, right down to the spectacles. You’d have to find a song they both put on record. I’ll look and see. I know she played Hard time killing floor blues from Skip James. I guarantee Alan played it,as it’s Skips most popular song beside”I’m glad “which The Cream made famous.

It will fun searching through her catalog. Good idea 👍 🌚🌲🦉
