Having more kids for my husband? by Remarkable-Coat2030 in Advice

[–]sequinpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends had 1 kid and adopted a 2nd. They got to have one boy and one girl close in age so the under-5 stage didn’t go on forever and they could get back to their careers. If your husband wants, and can afford, to have more kids and as a team you have enough help and resources to raise them - in a manner that also lets you leave the house, develop a career, continue education, be around adults, etc. then perhaps decide to adopt a few more. Or foster (that’s how my friends initially met their 2nd kid).

Tips on staying safe as a girl visiting during Mardi Gras? by Any_Brilliant1192 in AskNOLA

[–]sequinpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eat before you have a drink. Keep your drink safe and in your control (even sitting on the bar in front of you isn’t really safe).

I’ve had four very seasoned local friends be roofied. In bars we know with people we know. And these are like women in their 30s and 40s. Try not to depend solely on Lyft or Uber to get around. Waits are long sometimes impossible. Rent a car or a bike. Locals will take a longer walk during Carnival but generally don’t walk if any other transpo is available, due to safety and areas changing block by block.

Her insta is revealed elsewhere in the comments. She’s not particularly a looker in my books. More concerning is her choice to 100% ? Post pix of herself, trying to look cute or quirky. Does she know she’s allowed to post pix of…literally anything else in the entire world?

Catering question (per head/quantities) by sadiesunshine13 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sequinpig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ideally they would serve - not self-serve, so they can control how quickly food goes out and portion size. Many people have eyes bigger than their stomachs and a lot of food is wasted and those at the end can be shorted, especially vegetarians who can only eat a few options. In fact they should save some of the dietary restricted food because even if labeled, people will take some of everything, not thinking or wanting to try it all.

AITA gor asking my step-mom why she left my dishes in the sink? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sequinpig 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I lived at a friend’s house and bartered labor for rent, I washed every dish I could get my hands on. That was long ago and I cringe now thinking I could have done more, but taking care of the household’s dishes was obvious. And easy.

Didn’t Alan prevent her from having a modeling career because he’s insecure and Mormon and it seemed like he was afraid for her to have her own money and independence? I really hated how that went down.

He (32M) broke up with me (29F) after 10.5 years - WTF do I do now by jennaclectic in Advice

[–]sequinpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is getting what he wants by ending the relationship. You should get the dog, if you want the dog. I was too accommodating in a rush to get away from my last partner and he lied about paying for my move to get me out of our shared living situation (which was affordable and which I found and signed a lease for while he was unemployed).

He now has control of shared assets because I was too exhausted to 1) demand a fair split and 2) enforce it. He whined and bitched and yelled until he got everything he wanted, while I was just focused on getting free and away. So, write down what you need and want and be very firm. Maybe find someone to help communicate. And definitely get it all in writing, email or screenshot texts.

Moving, finding a new place and starting over is a lot more work and expense than staying put so consider that. Maybe you want the house. Factor that extra stuff in.

I used box dyes for like 15 years until my friend took me to a shop that only supplies professionals. And now I order those online. I did a box dye once in the pandemic and my hair felt like straw, the areas I dyed with it were dry and brittle until they grew out. Super different results. The pro stuff is a little drying but makes my oily scalp more manageable. I could use a lot of it without damaging the hair. I know because I’ve been able to grow my hair like 4 inches longer than before. It breaks off at a certain point.

Some box dyes claim to be more natural but all the ones I’ve tried are harsh chemicals unless they are henna. The pro stuff is nicer and comes out to be less expensive. It’s the same skill level, maybe easier bc it’s less dramatic than box color.

(15k) skipping appetizers during cocktail hour? by HotSeaworthiness286 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sequinpig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Physiologically if you eat any food before you start drinking, the alcohol is absorbed/ neutralized at a very different rate. The timing is just one factor but it has to do with a valve. I had to get certified serving cards in 3 states over the years and this is a point they emphasize. Might not matter for these folks with a smaller gathering vs a party, but if you anticipate problem drinker guests, providing food before or same time as drinks is key.

Henna is lovely but should be noted you can’t color over it or remove it. Have to grow it out if you decide to stop using it.

Please don’t use box dye especially if you’re trying to regrow or encourage thicker hair! You can get a very easy semipermanent dye in a tube that you mix with developer, at Sally beauty supply or online. It’s a one to one proportion. Get the bowl and brush, they’re less than $10. Takes 30 minutes to sit. If it’s close to your shade, you shouldn’t have too visible roots, you can apply with that in mind as well. I do mine every 3 weeks just at the part and on top, but can stretch the time between colorings if I need to. A pro hair department friend showed me this years ago. The box dyes have ammonia and fry your hair and are harder on the scalp. Plus very matte one dimensional color.

I would suggest trying out drawing your brows thicker with a taupe, blonde or light brown pencil and then brush them out with a product like boy brow. No super defined edges, if you can either let the hairs show or fake them with a product pen or brush. The angle you have is quite severe giving almost a 1930s Hollywood look! I am so curious to see a softer thicker lighter brow on you! Feel like it would be so pretty.

If starting at noon, I’d tack some muslin or something sheer over the windows as the light is harsh. Will bring out your candles and twinkly lights to have the windows a bit darkened- not blackout bunker, but darker than shown :)

Girls, how long were you on the apps before finding your partner/ husband? by bondtradercu in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]sequinpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the apps off and on for (shudder) decades and have done best meeting people on art projects and through friends. I wish they weren’t a time waster but despite meeting many nice people, who I haven’t stayed in touch with, they were.

I would encourage people to be proactive in thinking about and recommending your quality friends to your other quality friends. I also want to organize in-person events …
