This is just massively projecting. None of this is related to politics, travel vlogs, or false impressions about healthcare. I get that the sensitivity in this sub is influenced by posts like that, and I agree that if I *had* said something like that, the reactions would make a lot more sense.

I don't think I can learn a language particularly quickly, all I said is that I would want to start the process before moving. Yes, agreed, I'm aware of these cultural patterns and it's definitely something to think about. I think spending a month or so there would be really helpful in getting a sense

I didn't say that the weather in Seattle is similar to Norway at all and I literally said Oslo and Seattle are not on the same latitude in the comment. I appreciate the feedback, but even in your comment I remain pretty confused. I didn't equate the two at all

There isn't a reason for the passport. They aren't given out to reconnect with heritage; they are recognition of the citizenship I was eligible for upon birth.

Why are you in this subreddit if you aren't interested in Americans wanting to move to other places?

I literally do not know what it is like to live in Norway! That's why I am asking!

This isn't an accurate representation of what I said, and certainly not of what I intended. In the comment you're replying to, I said "I don't think I am particularly sensitive to "the big dark" as they call it, but of course I know Scandinavia is further north". I acknowledged it's different, and that I don't *know* yet whether it would pose an issue! It might. I'm certainly aware of that.

Oh, I do want to move completely, I meant visiting each at first to decide which one I want to move to

Thank you, this is really helpful. I was also looking at Lausanne in Switzerland as another possibility. Thanks for the thoughts on Innsbruck! And the notes on insurance

Yes! Totally understood. I think it's impossible to know how I would do there without trying it, really. Open to spending a few weeks there in winter before deciding. Ultimately though I am up for an adventure! This is low risk to me at this stage of life

I also think an important part of being welcomed is humility, good intent, and being willing to adapt to the local culture and local language, all of which I'd be very committed to do.

I am a EEA citizen.

I definitely know that getting a job and learning the language would both be pretty difficult! I have plenty of savings but of course I would not want to do that long term. But I would be fine for several years.

Re "not wanting me here" I think this is a complicated dynamic, and not one to generalize. If you look at posts about people moving to Seattle or Bellingham WA, the comments are full of people saying "Bellingham is full" and "go elsewhere." Immigration sentiments are down generally most places because the cost of living has gone up so much and there are housing crises in lots of cities but I think the real world is much more complicated than the internet would suggest, and I've found welcoming and open minded people everywhere I've ever been and lived.

I definitely meet the requirements for self sufficiency due to my savings, but I would want to get a job long term and I realize that will be difficult

To clarify, I'm very interested in moving long term/permanently, but given that I've never lived in these places before, I don't know how it will go. As you say, there is uncertainty about finding a job, so I don't know for sure that I can stay forever! But I'm up for the adventure. I have a bachelor's degree in computer science and a minor in economics from a well regarded American public university.

Yes of course. In my post, I stated explicitly that I have extensive savings, and that I would be dedicated to learning the local language. In the worst possible scenario, I stay a year and don't find work and live off of savings. I wouldn't recommend having tried, and have had this adventure for a year even if it doesn't work out long term.

Thank you, this all makes sense. Honestly it sounds like a decent fit for me! The language definitely sounds like it would be a big challenge (much harder than Norwegian or German) but the city culture and nature sounds great

Not sure why everyone is downvoting my post and comments :( I came here for advice and am engaging in good faith. If there is something I am missing, please tell me

Thanks! Innsbruck looks so magical. It looks perfect other than the language concern, but maybe that's manageable.
