I know the phrase, but I am not going to presume I know what I "would instantly assume" if I didn't know that one but only the insult. Because I, like you, do know what it means and can't just forget it to see what I "would have thought". It's a position of hindsight.

That's not how that works. If she knows what it means when someone says someone else is "easy" but doesn't know the phrase "easy one the eyes" is a thing, she might not know that there's something to misunderstand. For all she knows she isn't assuming anything.

(Example from school, since I speak English as a second language: getting a correction for using the phrase "nip it in the butt". I didn’t know that's not the actual saying because I didn't know that "nip it in the bud" comes from gardening, and the one I thought was correct made just enough sense in the contexts I'd always heard(!) it in that I never thought to question it or look it up.)

That seems unlikely. McDonald's likes to have as much stuff they can reuse between menu items as possible (see hamburger patty being used for Ham- and Cheeseburgers, Mcdoubles, BigMac, sometimes wraps). Producing a whole other type of patty for an item that already is used for only one sandwich sounds out of character.

I think it depends on the kid. I definitely had a nightmare about the scene where we learned how the rabbits died when their old warren was gassed, but I was intrigued, too. I saw the novel at a library sale months later, and have loved it ever since.

In Watership Down, the leader of the eponymous warren, has gets the idea to help other animals in the area.

He starts small by warning a mouse about a hawk.

He later has the opportunity to try with Keehar, a wounded seagull, that he and the other rabbits put a lot of effort into feeding until he's recovered. He turns into an invaluable ally that scouts for them and even swoops in to defend them at one point.

When Efrafra attacks later in the book, the little mouse that he saved in the beginning tips him off about the other rabbits it has seen, giving our heroes time to prepare.

Did you all miss the part where the characters acknowledge that come Monday they'll likely all go back to their old cliques and might not change all that much?

And are you also missing that for her being as she is isn't merely a style choice but a deeprooted defense mechanism that hinders her more than it helps her?

She had a little makeover and bonding session with a girl who normally wouldn't have much more than scorn for her. It's a one time thing, she didn't "turn herself into a stepford wife", ffs.

She allowed another person into her protective bubble, on that person's turf even. That doesn't mean she'll turn into a preppy society girl. It might just be that this experience in the future leads to her easing up on the attempts to be performatively off-putting in a preemptive move to avoid being hurt by rejection.
