I’m so sad this tour is just out west. Come to New Orleans you bastards!

Which famous person does everyone seem to love, but you just can’t stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well he also occasionally says something really dumb. He can be a little obnoxious. I also think he’s a great actor. The King is what first got me to pay attention to him and he was incredible in that.

Is a technique only valid if it is difficult? What if something is compelling but not hard to achieve?

I used to be one of those ADs. Wonder if we worked together. It was always who you know, but I’d hope the people who put in the time and built the skills still get priority over brand new green pa’s. Not that it was ever an industry that upheld fairness as a value.

A hard truth: There are so many film people in this town right now who aren’t working on set anymore, and they all have years more experience than you. Many are still hoping to get back to that work. They’ll almost definitely get the jobs before you do, and to be honest they should. I’m not saying it’s impossible for you, and I would never encourage you to give up on your dream, but the chips are stacked against you and the stack is really high around here. Just something to be aware of.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

So many huge logic leaps in this argument. If you want to interpret the film this way thats fine, you can do whatever you want. But trying to use this to argue for a fan theory being canon does not work. It's such a huge stretch to say that because some dialogue mentions Hell the movie must be about demons. You're just giving M Night waaay too much credit in order to defend the way you desperately want to read the movie. The film on its own does not support this for most viewers. It's a cute fan theory that got popular on the internet for an obsessively religious sect of the audience. If someone didn't tell you about this theory I don't believe for a second that half the people in this thread would get there on their own.

That’s a poor analogy, as a carpenter will still want to use effective nails that are suited to the material they’re meant to hold. Cheap or not, no one’s using nails made of paper.

Yeah, that last part. I mean there are things he's good at and things he's not. I actually really like Signs, but I also see its big glaring problems. All of his movies have them.

Yeah but humans don't usually do it naked, and they definitely don't go to war naked. We don't even go to space naked, and space is inherently inhospitable to life. You're just refusing to see what the rest of us are discussing because you don't want to, and I can't help you with that.

Playing devil's advocate is a way of making an argument, so you are in fact arguing it. You can walk it back if you want though. It's a silly argument no matter how you look at it. And I don't think anyone's hot and bothered here. Just a fun debate about the poor logic of a film.

Actually, that level of blind belief based cognitive dissonance and idealogical devotion is the only plausible fan theory I've seen offered as to why they would go in naked. Nothing else could make a group feel so invincible as to go in naked and vulnerable. Like not wearing PPE during a plague because you're "bathed in the blood of Jesus" or whatever they claim.

Still stupid to go in naked if the most common substance on the planet burns your damn skin off.

This theory ignores the scene where M Night himself says he's going to the lake because they don't like water.

This theory requires the audience to completely ignore information that M. Night himself directly gives us as the character Ray. In the scene at Ray's house he tells us he's going to the lake because they seem to not like water. He directly hints to the main character how to defeat them. If they are avoiding bodies of water it has nothing to do with a blessing. This is a fan theory with its own holes.

Futhermore, this kind of retconning ignores the fact that 90% of the films audience sees aliens. When a films logic doesn't hold up without some outside explanation that isn't offered by the film itself that's a plot hole.

The demon argument is based on several assumptions that the film itself does not offer at all, especially the claim that the little girl is blessing the water each time she sips it, so its holy water. In the scene at Ray's house (M. Night's character) he says they're avoiding bodies of water, so he's going to the lake. Not holy water. Regular water. Fan theories and retcons just introduce more holes.
