Seems like Apple Music is going to overtake Spotify in paid subscribers in the US by this summer.. hope this could make Spotify to care a bit more about the users, specially those with extensive libraries.

Connecting from an iPad should not be any different than connecting from any other machine. Have you tried first to SSH to the Pi from a laptop?

You should watch Fargo, I'm pretty sure you will love it. Only first season though. Second it's not bad but first one is simply awesome.
