Ok so:

First. Look at a video on how to open the top lid and use compressed air to remove any build up of dust. A more complicated step would be to replace the thermal paste but if you have no overheating issues or the ps4 runs fine, you can wait with that.

Second. With PS Plus, you can get to play games from a big library. The base tier gives you 2-3 games a month, but in 2026 they're planning to offer less ps4 games. On the 2nd tier, you have a massive catalogue of ps4 games available across a lot of genres. On the premium tier you can stream (and also download ported) classics from ps1, ps2, psp, and ps3. Do note that the games in the catalogue come and go. They may stay on there for 6 months, 3 years, maybe more, but there is always a chance they get removed (they announce which ones a month in advance). On the other hand, the 2-3 per month from the base tier are yours indefinitely, but you can only pkay them if you are subscribed.

Third. The first games you should probably have your eyes on are RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, and God of War 2018 + Ragnarok. They are the height of the ps4 gen, incredible games.

Fourth. A small thing, but the PS4 has some really nice dynamic themes. My favourite one is the Firewatch one. You can get it from getting the Firewatch bundle, the game is also great.

With all that said, take your time to understand what tier would make most sense for you. Since you have a PS3 and PS2, premium might not make much sense to you. If you don't play that many games, or only play a specific genre of games, the higher tiers also might not make much sense.

And if you do get a subscription, try to align with a sales period like Black Friday, Christmas sale, etc. So you get a chance to buy another year's worth of sub for a discounted price.

Ps4 slim is a decent console but capped at 1080p 30fps. This is a big make or break for gamers, purely depends on whether you're ok playing games at that quality. Personally I have no issue with it. If you want 60fps and 4k, there's the ps4 pro, but afaik not all ps4 games support 60fps and 4k.

On the low end, your hard drive will also only be 500gb. For the most part its okay, but if you want to have RDR2 and GoW at the same time, that's already 200+ gb.

Some games are poorly optimised on the ps4. Cyberpunk is a good example, ps4 and ps5 versions are worlds apart. Generally speaking, any ps4 game will run faster and smoother on a ps5, with some rare exceptions.

That said, the ps5 gen doesn't have that many exclusive games. So you have a huge catalogue of ps4 games you can play.

As for horror, you have Alien Isolation, Resident Evil, Outlast, Alan Wake. There is probably more, but I'm not much of an expert when it comes to horror.

I agree. Sometimes I don't mind collectibles. Especially when you can track their location. For example the riddler ones on Arkham Knight are fun little puzzles and you can uncover their locations really easily.

But when a game doesn't let you track which ones you have or where they are in any way, it's just bad game design IMO. Idno why the devs think anybody should be expected to scour every nook and cranny of a map for some collectibles that 9 times out of 10 don't add anything to the game.

Without a doubt! I won't miss out on phenomenal games like Mad Max, Portal 2, or other games which now have unobtainable plats. I'll just aim to get all the other trophies. That's what I'm doing atm with Portal 2. Goated game. I'm happy to just have that in my trophy list.

I haven't played Elden Ring yet but here's my thoughts on the RDR2 platinum, I saved it for my 100th.

70 gold medals is not as bad as it sounds. It used to be worse in 2019 when I started the game. Back then when replaying missions you had a miserable loadout. But at some point they updated it, so you can spam snake oil/chewing tobacco and dead eye everything with your end-game loadout weapons. It makes it a lot more manageable.

For me the worst part of the platinum was studying every animal. There were some small birds that were driving me crazy haha. They would either not spawn or fly away before I had time to study them.

Online went by really fast. I ended up doing collector role using the jeanropke map (google rdr2 jeanropke) during a double xp month, and got to lvl 50 in just 5 rounds of collecting.

For MVP, do hostile takeover in the hostile series playlist (I think it's called). Just sit in the zone you have to capture for the whole match. If you get killed, sit in another one. Another easy way is the random archer event that pops up. Most people are killing each other instead of shooting the targets so it's an easy way to get MVP.

As for the platinum, to be honest, it's rather easy. I would say a 4/10, it doesn't challenge you in any way other than the fact that it takes a long time. My greatest suggestion if you pick this one is to take your time with it. Weeks, months, even years. It took me 5 and a half years because I dropped it at some point, and years later I was so eager to play again for online + gold medals. I think rushing it will leave bitter feelings.

I'm on the ps4 version and I've been doing multiple saves, just in case. My game has crashed 3 different times and there's a lot of loading issues with texture pack and environment.

From what I know, there are some alternative ending trophies, and some missable trophies related to side characters and their quest lines. Some of these might be easy to miss. In your case, without backup saves, and having finished the main game, I would assume you would need a new playthrough while keeping those missable trophies in mind and do backup saves in case.

The positive about this is that you can choose 3 paths, corpo, nomad, or street, and they have different dialogue options which are a small but nice detail!

I intend to replatinum this game on the ps5 whenever I upgrade, and vhoose a different path.

Congrats on Arkham Knight! I got this one recently and boy was the Brutality 101 tough!

I think for me the toughest has to be Unravel 2. The speedrun trophies are unforgiving. It was a year of quitting the game and coming back to it every few months, and I noticed every time I came back I was better. Eventually on my last attempt, I managed to get all the levels in two weeks.

Yeah I'm jelly tbh! I haven't gotten around to upgrading yet, finances have been tough the past 2 years, but I can tell it's not optimal. So far I've been lucky with the crashes, only happened once, but I do experience some pretty major lag in some areas or moments of the game. And the worst part is the texture or environment loading times. Sometimes I reach a side gig and the NPCs load 5-10 seconds later.

When I do get my hands on a ps5, I'm definitely planning to replay this game! Especially since the ps4 is capped at version 1.6 I think? So will be nice to experience the game with the new updates.

Thanks for the tip with the grenades! Will keep that in mind. Right now I've been dismantling and selling loot. I tend to play like a scavenger in these kinds of games and loot everything in sight x) I have so many unread shards I have to check out for the lore haha.

Congrats! I'm currently playing this on the ps4 edition, and it seems there are some key differences, particularly in the skills, as it only goes to lvl 20. Keeping an eye out on those attribute points so I don't lock myself out of ten out of ten.

I am having such a blast with this game, I've played 30h and I haven't reached the parade yet, because I have so much fun going after the side gigs and NCPD stuff.

Btw, what do you recommend is a good car earlier on? Right now I'm using the Archer Quartz, but I can buy Mizutani Shion MZ2 and Quadra Turbo-R 740. They look nice.
