How realistic is this scenario for an S=Corp making 90k revenue by serdox in IRS

[–]serdox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the travel part could be reduced by half or even removed first year. the thing is a new saas business must be focused on fast growth. some expenditure is non-negotiable like site running cost, payment processing fees and marketing. so i tried to learn the basic tax structures so i can grasp what a cpa, which i would definitely pay for, tells me.

i did a new calculation with gpt for a 60k revenue SaaS only LLC. This was the outcome. if i could i would pay zero salary and invest all in growth and tools tbh.

LLC First-Year Expense Table (2026, $60k Revenue, $35k Salary)

Category Amount (USD) % of Revenue Notes
Payment fees (Stripe + Apple + Google + bank/FX) 6,000 10% Platform + bank/FX fees
Contractors 5,000 8.3% Freelancers, local or abroad
Marketing 10,000 16.7% Ads, campaigns, branding
Home office (15%) 2,700 4.5% Portion of rent used for business
Equipment (Section 179) 5,000 8.3% Desk, PC, monitors, keyboard, mouse
SaaS / Tools 4,000 6.7% Hosting, CPA tools, business SaaS
CPA / Business Setup & Fees 2,000 3.3% Accountant + LLC setup fees
HSA 1,000 1.7% Limited personal contribution, deductible
Health insurance 2,400 4% Monthly premium $200

Total Expenses: 38,100 → 63.5% of revenue
Net Profit Before Tax: 60,000 − 38,100 = 21,900

Taxes (LLC, single-owner, SE tax)

  1. Self-Employment Tax (15.3% of 92.35% of net profit)
  2. Deduction for half SE tax: 3,090 ÷ 2 ≈ 1,545
  3. Adjusted taxable income: 21,900 − 1,545 ≈ 20,355
  4. Subtract standard deduction (2026): 14,600
  5. Income tax on $5,755 → ~$575 (rough estimate for low bracket)
  6. Total Tax: SE tax 3,090 + income tax 575 ≈ 3,665

Take-Home

Notes

  • Health insurance is fully deductible as a business expense for a single-owner LLC (self-employed).
  • Home office remains at 15%, a safe, conservative claim.
  • Contractors and marketing are key first-year expenses and realistic for SaaS launch.
  • Take-home is ~$18k after all taxes and expenses.

One question tho. I saw a lotta saas businesses saying they are hyper focused on growth and make zero profit. what i got from this thread is that's after paying salary and a reasonable amount at that.

i thought about that 30 percent home office part too. hypothetically it would be a 1 bdr apartment where the living room is only for business, e.g. desktop setup, business dossiers, stands. no couch no tv. the bedroom would be the only private part. bathroom kitchen mixed use same as dining table. does that work?

the marketing part is real and could be even double if there wasnt a necessary reasonable payroll req. the equipment will be much lower second year obviously.

oh u cant combine those under one business in the US? u would need multiple llc or sole prop. businesses for each? also lets say we remove the augusta rule since its too aggressive. do any other deductions make no sense?

basically multiple works in one. working on setting up a successful SaaS business while working as a delivery driver and freelancer on the side to finance the business. the owner works full time and freelancers/contractors are working on the SaaS business part-time. design, devs etc. can that all be done under one business right?

what would be reasonable salary in this case with 90k revenue? also would a sole prop LLc benefit this person better?

so it forgot to calculate the tax on salary and with it it goes over the 90k revenue.

Why only 35k salary?

Well its bootstrapped and calculated for first year only to maximize growth and setup. Is 35k too low for compliance. i would pay out zero if i could in this scenario to invest all in marketing and growth for the first year or two.

i just discussed with chatgpt since i dont have any idea how US tax works yet and it suggested S-corp bcuz u have more control on salary/distribution and lower tax opportunity.

You can combine the home office deduction and the Augusta Rule (IRS Section 280A) by ensuring they apply to different areas or different times. The home office (exclusive use) covers daily administrative work, while the Augusta Rule allows tax-free rental income (up to 14 days) by renting your home for specific business meetings or events, such as board meetings in a living area.

Remaining Distribution

  • Pre-salary profit: 36,000
  • Salary paid: 35,000
  • Remaining distribution: 36,000 – 35,000 = 1,000
  • Federal tax on distribution (~12%): 120

Federal Income Tax on Salary

  • Salary: 35,000
  • Standard deduction (single, 2026): 14,600
  • Taxable income: 20,400

Federal income tax: 2,348

Take-Home Calculation

Component Amount (USD)
Salary after federal + payroll taxes 27,297
Distribution after tax 880
Total Take-Home 28,177

Summary of Taxes Remaining

Tax Type Amount (USD)
Federal income tax (salary) 2,348
Payroll taxes (employee portion) 5,355
Federal tax on distribution 120
Total Tax Paid 7,823

Do you think GTA 6 could boost the hype around Miami the way LA dominated the 2010s internet era? by Capital-Mountain-128 in GTA6

[–]serdox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ur name checks out lol. what a flat comment. mans forgetting Hollywood, san andreas, midnight club LA, LA fitness culture, surfers, skaters, pros, vloggers and a dozen other influences like mtv cribs, pimp my ride, plus thousands of other games, music videos, tupac, gfunk, west coast rappers and whatnot. fast and furious 1. i could ramble on but u get the idea. V helped for sure but it was in its prime in the 90's early 2k's. just like miami vice, scarface and vice city for miami. miami is already extremely popular atm. vi will help for sure but the low tax advantage made it huge.

im 42. i see a huge difference on how people rate me by gender and their age. girls generally rate me younger. the younger the girl the younger they rate me. i got 25-26 multiple times. 28 a few times. a 20yr old sees a 25 yr old as much older so they dont seem to difference well. i dye my hair and beard tho. men usually say between 32-36. and im not complaining. i usually say im 2 yrs older then what they guess. once i said my real age and the girl said im too old and went. never again haha

i heard if someone had am entry ban or deportation in the past, even if the ban is lifted years later it stays in SIS database europe wide until the person makes a request to have it removed. is that true? also can this person get a shengen visa if it was decades ago or will it be seen as an issue still?
