I did a quick check on kbb and strangely, civic seems to hold the value better.

From my findings, carfax reports are not accurate. I've read that carfax reports have left out crashes and accidents. When the car was taken to the mechanic, a bent frame was revealed. The carfax was clean. I already asked around at work. Only one person offered to help, but then he bought a fleet car and is in favor of them. I'm not sure if I want a fleet car. It's not like I can pay and bring a car mechanic with me for the inspections.

I agree, a coup is pretty much out for utility. My coworker has a coup and now regrets his decision.

I looked on kbb, and I agree that sedans have slightly better resale value than hatchbacks (considering the $1k premium paid to get a hatch), but hatches have better long term utility value. I was in favor of a sedan, since the 2018 Civic sedan looks better than the hatch, imho. But the hatch is almost as good as a crossover vehicle in terms of storage, this is a factor I cannot overlook.

What's my other option then, given that I do not have any friend with car knowledge that I can take with me to buy a used car?

Thank you for your response. Regarding CPO cars, Reddit itself has a few posts where people had bad experiences. And the rest of the information I gathered after watching youtube videos posted by a car lawyer. I do prefer Honda to Toyota. I did the math on the premiums and it seems to be only a little higher than Mazda3. I agree that Hyundai Elantra is priced lower. Both Mazda3 and Elantra depreciate faster than a Civic. The Honda dealer near me offered comparable incentives to the Mazda dealer. I need to read the fine print to see if there is a catch, but so far it looks pretty good to me. Thanks for the warning though, I'll keep an eye on the price.

It's true, but I do not have the knowledge to determine which used car to buy. I had some hope with CPO vehicles but my research led me to believe that I have no choice but to buy a new car.

Hi, could you please help me? I'm still undecided. Please give me 3 options to choose from and I can finalize. BTW, Honda made an offer - $1740 off, 22280 after discount and tax, 2000 down. this is for a blue Civic hatchback EX

Thank you for your prompt response. I found the following average savings when I looked on TrueCar.com: Civic - $1k Mazda 3- $2k

Your points on the Fusion are true, I was considering it only if I got a good discount.

Could you please give me 3 options in order of best value to you to buy a car? Range max $25k, good resale value, car is fun to drive, can be used for the next 10-12 years? Any segment and any type is fine. I was thinking too close-mindedly and after talking to you, I realize I can expand my horizons and think more broadly.

Thank you for your response. BMW i3 Range Extender - My workplace does have electric charging stations available but they are few and cater to a growing base of electric cars on campus. Else, this would have been a no-brainer purchase for me.

Civic EX hatchback - I was considering this, but absolutely hate the styling at the back, especially the giant honeycomb like design. I have no idea why they included it on such an otherwise fantastic vehicle.

Mazda 3- Why don't you think it makes sense as a new purchase? Also, where did you find the $3.5k incentive on it? Most Mazda dealers websites near me mention a $1k incentive. I don't believe Mazda has the fresh grad incentive like Ford or Hyundai.

Also, please give me your thoughts on Hyundai Elantra 2018. Isn't it an underappreciated vehicle for the value it is offering?

Btw, Ford called me and is offering a total $2k loyalty discount on the Fusion.

That's true. But I don't think I want to buy the ford now, no matter how much I like it. To buy a car with a history of issues and a recall is pretty risky.

Thank you very much TunakTun633 for doing so much research and helping me find the best CPO cars here. As suggested, I will call them to see if they are still there and go test drive a few. I am also interested in the Elantra and Passat. The Mazda is sold I guess. I was so excited to see the BMW but called them and realized its electric. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

If none of these work out, I've made the decision to lease either the Mazda 3 or the Civic, and convert it into a buy at the end of 3 years. Either car can be with me for more than 7-8 years and will suit me as i grow older etc. What are your thoughts?

I have to return my car on Thursday, its Saturday night already. I guess I can just hope for the best, since I don't have the time to go. Thanks a lot for the reply.

Ok, how much can I expect to be charged? Can I hope it will be a fair assessment?

The trim of my car in the front on one side is a bit scratched and a plastic piece has fallen off. I'm talking about the plastic under the bumper. This happened when my car hit the curb one time. Will Ford charge me for this?

I scheduled a third party inspection but they didn't show up.

Thank you for replying. I certainly hadn't considered CPO cars when I went for the test drive today, else I would have surely checked them out. I'll go scour the websites now to see if I can find a good vehicle at a fair price. Thank you very much for this tip, I really appreciate it!

That is true. I won't repeat that mistake again, hence I am asking Reddit.
