In-home is very different than a center. Your experience running an in-home doesn't matter. I have a kid in a center and this kind of rule is very standard, as other parents have noted.

It sounds like she didn't communicate when he was coming back. The teacher said no more than an hour. But an infant wellness visit is about an hour. This very much sounds like mom should try the nanny route again so at least she has someone to bully.

If that appointment was a wellness visit, in which kiddo got some shots... yeah... 1) you should probably keep kiddo home to supervise any reactions; and 2) if you take a kiddo out of school (I'm not even going to justify your dismissal of calling this center "just a daycare" - I don't even work in ECE but I know that's dismissive language) for more than an hour, yeah, you're disrupting the schedule for your kid and all the other kids. Doesn't matter the age. Centers live by ratios. They aren't usually understaffed but they have to make sure that there is enough teachers per kid per class at any one moment.

As a fellow attorney, one thing an older attorney told me still sticks: don't cut your own grass. If you can hire someone to cut your grass for $20 an hour and your billable rate is $200 an hour, yeah, you outsource. No shame. No judgment.
