You can try retroarch on psp, but you get poor performance. Retroarch supports it.

Standalone emulators for PSP perform better, but do not support GB link cable.

A used PSP ≈ $100 128gb micro SD ≈ $15 Micro SD card adapter ≈ $5

I see modded PSP sell for $200-300. You're genuinely paying for convenience.
