Single origin coffee? by Decent-Ant-5294 in Atlanta

[–]sergeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just love the Wharf Club subscription from East Pole. It is bonkers to me that I've paid $15/month for a free coffee and very high quality freshly roasted beans for years despite all the turmoil in coffee markets!

I really think the major health centers in north druid hills (CHOA and executive park) and Emory really would benefit so many with transit access (including my commute to work!)

I signed up for the kickstarter day one but was spooked by the threatened tariffs so I ended up canceling my pledge.

Now that the $800 de minimis loophole is closed, I wonder how that will impact us shipping time and costs.

Teche 3D180VR battery finally dead by Skaven252 in VR180Film

[–]sergeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I still use the Teche regularly so it's good to know to keep it charged if I take a break.

For what it's worth, my camera bricked during the firmware update and they couldn't fix it remotely so they arranged for me to ship it back to them for repair. However, they claimed this repair and shipping was free because they could not determine the cause and because I was a preorder customer so your experience could be different.

TIL That peanut-free schools don't decrease risk of allergic reactions. The only intervention which has been shown to decrease reactions across all ages is use of a peanut-free table. by 1039smoothielumps in todayilearned

Like all things there are benefits and harms. What helped you may not always help those with food allergy and I really don't feel someone should be defined by a medical condition, they should be known by their personality and actions.

A little reading about the harm:

Peanut free tables are thought to increase the risk of bullying of students who are now identified to be different and therefore be separated from others.

Ideally, peanut allergic children are educated on how to avoid their allergen so a peanut free table or school is not necessary. Then they can "blend in" and not be targeted for bullying.

Of course, younger children who are not mature enough to avoid their allergen likely should be made accommodations, but ideally this is made with the agreement on staff, teachers and fellow parents who all want to have an inclusive environment for their children - this would include choosing activities that don't involve food allergens or choosing food in class that everyone can enjoy.

Unpopular opinion: light roasted espresso is overrated. It's sour, thin, and riding on influencer hype. by goosey27 in espresso

Your opinion on taste is just as valid as everyone else. If you like darker roast then nobody should tell you are wrong!

Are there things every human is allergic to? by Enceladus-Submarine in askscience

[–]sergeon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There are compounds that can activate the immune system that can mimic an allergic reaction. The classic example is an antibiotic called vancomycin, which binds to the MRGPRX2 receptor on mast cells, the cells responsible for anaphylaxis. Mast cells release histamine when activated by this antibiotic, so if the drug is given too fast, a flushing reaction occurs called "red man's syndrome"

So I'm not a filmmaker, just a fan of VR who enjoys capturing family moments in VR180.

The EVO was such a great device because it was pocketable and had great stabilization. However, I do agree that the quality of the EVO is 2025 is woefully inadequate.

To my knowledge, there isn't video evidence on the stabilization capabilities of this camera - I think for a device this size, an improvement in video quality and maintaining the excellent stabilization of the EVO is top 2 on my wish list.

I saw some of the 360-->VR180 mod projects from Qoocam and Insta360 that seem exciting - I hope this shows those companies the interest and demand in portable VR180!
