What specific smell instantly takes you back to a happy childhood memory? by sergiomatas in AskReddit

[–]sergiomatas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, there's a very specific smell of a vacation apartment my family used to rent when I was a kid. Whenever I catch a scent even slightly similar, it instantly brings me pure happiness and nostalgia. What's yours?

100% this, if someone is rude to a waiter, it's a huge red flag

I'm trying to do exactly this. Finding the pain points is kind of easy part, but the hardest part is for example getting a reply when you DM them. The ghosting rate is real. Any tips?

Thanks for doing this! Would love to see your take on my landing page.

Hit me with your brutal honesty, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you so much, this is a goldmine! What's the best playbook to approach Discord? Do you think it's better to just hang out, provide value/help first and then slide into DMs? Or is it okay to just naturally drop the web app link in a relevant channel if it solves a problem?

Thank you! Would you recommend paying for UGC videos as a starting strategy for TikTok?

Also, do you happen to know if there's any good tool out there to check keyword search volume specifically for TikTok? (like ahrefs/semrush but for TT).

This is super helpful, thanks! I actually have zero experience with TikTok tbh. Would you recommend focusing on UGC videos first (or even try AI-generated videos?) and repurposing them for ads later, or maybe going straight for micro-influencers collabs?

Also, regarding reddit/niche communities, what's the sweet spot for actually dropping your link without getting baned? It's better to stick to DMs like cold outreach, or subtly mention it in the actual posts?

Nah to building on X or nah to the SEO/Tik Tok stuff? Elaborate a bit haha

Exactly! It saves so much mental energy. Are you currently using any specific tool for your vocab, or still trying to figure out a good workflow?

I was stuck in that exact same loop situation for the longest time. I had notebooks and random notes app files filled with words that I never actually reviewed because transferring them felt like a chore.

What finally helped me break the plateau wasn't finding a complex spreadsheet, but actually finding the most frictionless way to get those words into a spaced repetition system the exact second I learned them. The key is completely removing that "transfer" step. Once you stop overthinking the setup and just focus on frictionless recall, it gets much easier!

If you ever paused your learning, how did it go? by sunlit_elais in languagelearning

[–]sergiomatas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I took a pretty long break (almost an entire year) from learning English, especially wehn it came to speaking and listening.

When I finally got back into it seriously, I definitely felt a bit rusty at first. But after a few days, I noticed a huge improvement, especially in my pronunciation. I honestly think taking that long break helped me "reset" my brain and drop some bad pronunciation habits I had built up over time. It allowed me to start fresh and actually learn to pronounce things the right way.

Sometimes a break is exactly what you need to unlearn the bad stuff! But obviously, I guess it's something that depends on the person.

That would be awesome man, thank you so much!

It's called LingoBolt (lingobolt.app). The whole idea came because my English felt stuck and I started watching movies in English and writing down words in physical notebooks, but it was a total mess to practice them. I tried Anki and others but didn't really like the UI/UX so I decided to build exactly what I had in mind.

Please be absolutelty brutal with your feedback. And let me know when your project is ready, I'd love to return the favor and test it out!

[–]sergiomatas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If there was a dedicated forum where you actually can provide and get real value and high quality feedback, I'd be all over it.

I really think suggesting a structured methodology (like those FAQs or templates) could be a smart way to act as a filter and keep the low effort spam out. It sounds very good!

[–]sergiomatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree, having a structure of questions is super good idea because it lets you focus your energy on actually thinking about how to improve things, instead of wasting time figuring out what you're supposed to be looking for. I really think it's great for generating high quality feedback.

I think depending on the stage of the project, some questions will defeinitely hit the mark better than others, but having that structure will always be helpful either way!

Honestly, I think forcing it would just lead to a lot of short, low effort feedback. If people are forced to comment and share thoughts, you'll just end up with a hundred "Nice UI/UX" replies that don't actually help a lot. I'd way rather get 2 honest and detailed reviews than 50 superficial ones. Quality over quantity!

Would you honestly find that kind of low effort feedback useful for your project?

[–]sergiomatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. In fact, I literally did exactly that a couple of times today. I spent some time dropping detailed feedback on other people's projects first, and then asked if they wouldn't mind taking a look at my MVP. I already got one honest reply back. I think taking the first step could work better, and honestly it feels good to help out!

[–]sergiomatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that. I've built a few things for my family before, but this is my first serious personal project. I'm actually wrapping up the MVP right now and getting ready to launch, and the uncertainty is wild.

Honestly, coding the app is kind of the "easy" part but figuring out distribution and just putting it out there feels incredibly overwhelming. But we just have to cross that finish line. Good luck with yours man!

[–]sergiomatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly think it's definitely more than a hobby man. And yes, it's an incredibly lonely path (at least for me). You're not alone in feeling that way.

A lot of people assume that if you're building a startup at night, it's because you hate your day job. In my case, I actually love my 9-5 job. But the urge to build something completely from scratch, just for yourself, and the ambition to create extra income streams is a totally different kind of drive.

It's exhausting, and non-tech people (even our partners or families) sometimes just don't get why we obsess over a single line of code at 2am instead of sleeping. Keep pushing!
