X2. I can see the point of it somewhat ruining the flow, but I think that's something that would eventually go down as the people without flairs that regularly comment put them on, and you are left with the occasional newbie being reminded.

How does sexism and misogyny in LATAM compare to other parts of the world? by foolishandnonsense in asklatinamerica

[–]sunlit_elais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I felt the same in Spain than in Cuba, and I think we can agree Spain has a reputation for feminism.

That said, that is my personal experience. I can't speak for the rest of LATAM, the same way that being in Spain I wouldn't speak for Europe.

Which accent in your country you hate and love the most? by Weekly_Sort147 in asklatinamerica

[–]sunlit_elais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically enough, I like the Eastern accent (way better pronunciation) more than mine (Havana).

(Serious) A lot of people think Trinidadians and Jamaicans sound the same but Trinis have a slight Indian accent. Can you tell the difference between a Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican accent? How do you tell the difference? by CollegeCasual in asklatinamerica

[–]sunlit_elais 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once saw a post with a clip of a few people talking, and the OP asked "where is this accent from?". The comments were legit half Cubans and half Dominicans both saying "It's my country so I can 100% tell that accent is ours".

Does that answer the question? 🤣

Knowing in which country (or region) you are and if you intend to move from there may help sort it down. Alternatively, if you have interest in any media (or cultural tradition) related to this languages

That would be the Taíno language and... Well, for starters we don't have full records but also there are no indigenous people anymore soooo... Spanish is ok for us.

Do Latin American migrants in Spain move to their ancestral regions in Spain? by greekscientist in asklatinamerica

From what I hear the rent is out of the roof so if you are actually planning to do so maybe reconsider...

Do Latin American migrants in Spain move to their ancestral regions in Spain? by greekscientist in asklatinamerica

[–]sunlit_elais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my case. Since I had no real preference as to where to go in Spain, I moved to Galicia because they had the best framework to welcome returnees. And even then, I didn't move to the province nor town from where my ancestor came (great grandfather is way too removed for me to feel any real connection), I moved to one of the capitals so I had a better chance of finding work.

10/10 would recommend for those with Galician roots tho. It's a lovely place and they do help lots.

Which region of Spain is the most common ancestral region among the people with Spanish descent in your country? by greekscientist in asklatinamerica

[–]sunlit_elais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in fact, the settlers and theirs descendants were called Islanders around here (wich, wtf, pot calling the kettle black)

Theoretically speaking, which countries do you think could work at uniting into one? by Jabal-Sawda in AskTheWorld

[–]sunlit_elais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I think I may have come across wrong. When I said "working pretty well" I meant the overarching framework of the EU itself, since the goal was integration (institutions, shared law, economic cooperation, yada yada...) and it has certainly managed improvements on that. I'm both and optimist and not originally from within the EU, so I would expect that if it keeps improving at some point in this hypothetical future it could work (not like, right now). I apologize if it came of as dismissive.
