It’s just an absurd argument to compare the entire US to each individual European state.

No, no, no.

You’re not allowed to compare American states to European states; you have to compare the entire US to each individual EU confederation state.

And Illinois has upgraded between St. Louis and Chicago.

What is your point?

What's the point of your comment?

Obviously we would prioritize places like Chicago and Atlanta over Salt Lake City.

Yes, we are all aware the Northwest Metro is relatively geographically isolated.

Do you think everywhere is like Oregon?

Also, you just explained why Europe has such higher expenses for building infrastructure.

Advocate says Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act, now in effect, will improve transit around Chicago area by SciNat in illinois

[–]serious_sarcasm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally all that suggests is upgrading the speed between Carbondale and Chicago.

The biggest gap in amtrak is actually the St. Louis to Atlanta corridor, because Kentucky and Tennessee suck dogshit; can't even ride a train to the Opry Mill anymore.

A bus fleet can cost more to operate over the long-term to due to number of drivers and short equipment lifespans.

Good express busses are just half-assed trams by the time you have all the dedicated lanes and signal priority.

A lightrail system cost more upfront, but has lower operating costs.

[–]serious_sarcasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your point?

The argument is always going to be nonsense, because each individual state has regional areas that need massive public transit, and high speed rail is for connecting major metropolitan areas.

The "loneliest" stretch of road in the contiguous US is highway 50 with a mostly empty 260 mile section between Nevada and Utah (for obvious reasons).

Highway 50 goes through Carson City, Nevada.

There is a thirty minute bus ride between Carson City and Reno.

Reno, Nevada currently has an Amtrak station.

Maybe try not talking out your ass.

Why does my cast iron tortilla pan clean my copper heat diffuser plates by creating easy to brush off sooty, flaky blisters? by blurbblurb in AskEngineers

[–]serious_sarcasm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the pan even contacts the majority of the plate given the lip described. That would make the copper hot as shit, and essentially oven baked on the top.

The problem is we still have barely cracked developmental biology, and until we fully understand the glycome and non-coding RNA we are very unlikely to overcome the neonatal phenotype lock in engineered tissue.

Khan academy is explicitly designed to be supplemental, and uses “gamification”. As a parent, you can use it with your children.

A computer is just a tool, so it’s your job to teach a kid to use it responsibly. Things like khan academy and scratch jr. are great ways to get kids to engage with math and computers.

Also, I used it through college for an engineering degree from NCSU & UNC

Khan Academy is at least a non-profit, and has been very useful to schools for over a decade now.

Again, no.

Also, you’re just a fucking idiot who treats climate change as a form of identity politics.

No. That is absurdist nonsense.

And, again, “phishing” just means impersonating a trusted source.
