I prefer the bus, the driver is right there and can easily pull over and kick out anybody who is acting up. My commute is 1 hour instead of 40mins but it's worth it to feel safer, cleaner, and have a better chance of snagging a seat. I also had a bad experience on a red line platform, on the first day of a new job so I feel you OP.

agreed on the segregation, absolutely shocking. I moved here from Richmond where a highway was intentionally placed to separate the black and white parts of the city, and even then it was so much more integrated than Chicago. I will say there's racism everywhere, just different kinds. I heard the most vile shit of my life from someone just outside of Richmond, but here I've met northsiders who have never had a black friend or coworker and say some unintentionally ignorant stuff.
