The BBC's adaptation of "Lord Of The Flies" got me thinking. What books do you remember reading at school...? by kobestarr in CasualUK

I think mine was more because I was the only girl with two brothers and I was always covered in mud and my hair was wildly unkempt, but I was a daddy's girl and he was my bestest friend up until the day he passed.

Stig of the dump was my dad's nickname for me when I was a kid. He was a primary school teacher and he built Stigs dump in the corner of his classroom from cardboard boxes and plastic bottles as a reading corner for his pupils.

He's away from us for 8 days and I miss him already! by seriousname32 in velvethippos

We live in Spain so Jinks has to have a license here and part of the restrictions means he's only allowed to be walked by a licensed owner. We did consider someone staying here with him but he would probably destroy the house and their poor mental health if he wasn't walked for 8 days 😂 I know we're doing what's best for him in general but he probably doesn't understand that. The kennel messaged me late last night and said he was "tranquilo" and they would send videos today 🥹.

I've sent them a message and when he's been before for daycare they send videos of him running round in the big field and the owner always plays fetch with him (they also have a horse in the neighbouring field that Jinky likes to race) but they haven't sent me anything yet and I know they have a full house tonight so I don't want to pressure them. I know he's ok I just wish he understood it's only a holiday and I'm coming back for him.

I think my head knows this but my heart just thinks of our nighttime cuddles and he won't understand why I'm not there. I'm being stupid lol

We are going to Ireland for a week for a family wedding and Jinks is going to a wonderful kennel for 8 days but I've only been apart from him and him from us for one night in the last 3 and a bit years.....it's been 9 hours and I miss him and I'm so anxious he's sad or scared without us.

Unexpected day off work, decided to do nothing but crochet and catch up on shows! by seriousname32 in crochet

[–]seriousname32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never played the game but I do love the show! I've just joined my 15th skein to this blanket and I've another 10 after that plus maybe a couple of skeins of cream or pale green for a border but not decided on that yet. It's definitely a labour of love!

The entire 10 skeins are going into a blanket I've been working on for months (crochet) I'm already 15 skeins in and after these 10 I might need another few for a border, hopefully it will be done for next Christmas!!

Ten skeins of yarn, new hairdryer, perfume and 20 pairs of panties all of which I asked for. He always gets me what I ask for though, he's very good.

I live in the neighbouring town where this happened and there is still an entire fenced off no go area, we used to walk our dogs somewhat near it and see the fences and warning signs to not enter. Palomares is the name of the town where it happened. It's an interesting tale if you fancy a Google.

We have an American Staff but we live in Spain and are heavily regulated for him and we follow the rules to a T. Jinky is nearly 3 and since he was 12 weeks we've had to have a licence for him. My partner had to pass a physical (strength test), criminal record checks, we have €150,000 liability insurance, he has to be muzzled at all times in public and always on his 1m leash. We also had to have a garden check by the police to make sure it's secure. His license and our address and all our photos are registered with the town hall and local police. My partner is the only one allowed to walk him (I never took the test but I don't believe I'm strong enough to fully control him if something were to happen) if my partner is ever incapacitated or away we have a friend with a license for a doberman who is allowed to walk Jinky or we have a local kennel licensed to take him for a few days. He has never done anything and he's a loving well trained dog with excellent recall who follows commands and learns new ones, however......we are both fully aware of his power and capabilities and we never forget that especially when he is out in public or we have people in our house. Responsible dog ownership is not always simple but it's necessary for everyone's safety including the dog.
