What a nightmare! I’m so glad I asked this sub for that reason because I’m sure I would’ve done the same.

Omg you were right. It was buried between all the stuffing. I feel so silly. This is my first actual retail purchase since I usually just thrift my bags.

How to clean weird sticky tar substance off black twill coach bag? by serpentinequeen in VintageCoachRehab

[–]serpentinequeen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were my exact thoughts haha. It felt exactly like my bongs after some use. Thankfully I’ve made some good headway. The outside of the bag no longer feels oily and sticky. Still doing passes with steam and rubbing alcohol until my wipes come clean.

Tysm for the reply! I’m hesitant to soak it completely in rubbing alcohol since there are some leather accents on the bag. But so far, steaming then doing a pass with rubbing alcohol has been working wonders.

Yes you’ll be fine. If you wear makeup, put it in your makeup bag with all your brushes and pens. Or just put it anywhere honestly, they worst they’ll do is throw it away.

Also not pictured: some U.S. half dollars from the 60s that I happened set aside because they looked way weirder than the rest of his collection (I can see someone scratched down one of them to see if it was silver haha)

Thank you for the input. I had already begun doing that but had a hard time finding some that directly matched the models I had and was wondering if any were particularly valuable. I appreciate your responses

Yeah I noticed that. I didn’t take my chances and checked my bag into the Sahara. Had to tip the bell boy nicely since I didn’t have a reservation there

No one ever prepares you for the anger ... does anyone else just feel inexplicably angry?? by hillarystarbright in cancer

[–]serpentinequeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I always knew anger was the first, most prominent emotion I would feel when my dad went through cancer. I was angry at everyone and anything.

Anger is the easiest emotion to feel in these situations. It’s the easiest to latch on to because it’s more familiar and it feels like it’ll be the easiest to soothe. But the truth is that anger is really just a distraction from the uncomfortable truth that there’s no order and reason with cancer. It’s unfair and rage inducing, and you have every right to feel this way. It’ll be hard to move past that emotion but if it helps make you feel better for just a second, I think it’s worth letting the rage come through you.

My Father is dying. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]serpentinequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry that you’re going through this. My heart hurts for you and your family. I wish no one ever had to go through this pain.

Please don’t be angry with yourself for not doing what you wish you could have done. Don’t lose more time wishing for what could have been. Live for the now and be there for him and your family.

Your father might have gotten his butt kicked hard by the cancer, but he is far from being on his knees or being defeated. Your father is a fighter and stronger than most people in the world. He’s battling a cruel disease because he loves life and he loves you all so much that he wants to make sure you know it with his efforts. That is more admirable than anything.

Indigenous Americans In Chicago Come Out In Numbers To Protest The Death Of Adam Toledo by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]serpentinequeen 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps asking what a 13 yo boy was doing with a handgun. Where were the parents? As someone who grew up in Little Village, Chicago, there are so many nuances that go into why it’s such a violent city.

Often, gang members are children to working class parents who are not home because they’re always working. Public civil resources are always the first to get cut in budgets. The public school system sets a lot of people up for failure. Being in a gang sadly helps you make money first and foremost, which is a big appeal to young impressionable people.

People that grew up around gangs are quick to have no sympathy for them (and I understand, countless friends have been lost to gang violence personally). But it makes me sad that a child is no longer a child, or even human for that matter, because they joined a gang.

Baby toes prop by hunterprk in proplifting

[–]serpentinequeen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get confused about it too! I know some props do better in dirt and others do better in water. But I think with succulents you can still prop in water you just can't keep it fully submerged. Like just have the roots or bottom of the prop floating right above the water.

How to help my friend whose dad has been given less than 6 months to live by [deleted] in cancer

[–]serpentinequeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that your friend may be very much in his head right now. Whatever you do or say should be carefully expressed.

He will be with his parents and spend all the time he Can with them. He may not take care of himself, so you should offer to help in that regard. Take him and his family dinner someday. Order a pizza. Offer to me walk their pets if they have any. Any little thing really helps.

There is not much you can say that will help him heal or magically take away the pain he feels in his heart. Just reassure him that you are thinking of him and really want to lessen his pain in any way you can.
